Tola Radio listeners tell Rosan to do better

Rosan

Hosts of the Morning Braff show on Tola Radio usually show a united front when they deliver frank political and social commentary each day.

But on August 21, Tola Radio was like a house divided from within as hosts Cindy Rosan and Dameon Percival clashed on air over funds that were recently raised to prevent the foreclosure of Percival’s home.

In the end, some loyal listeners phoned in and told Rosan that a better way should have been found to handle the issue.

The issue started after residents raised roughly $30,000 that Percival needed to save his property. But just days ago, the public became aware that the National Bank was planning to put Percival’s home on the market for a second time. Many started asking questions about the funds that were raised but they said Percival provided no explanation.

Rosan, who was the sole host of the Morning Braff radio show on August 21, dedicated the entire show to discussing the issues involving Percival’s home, stating that she too asked questions of her co-host but was given no answers.

Percival later phoned the morning show and explained that though a lot of money was pledged, he only collected just over $22,000. He also stated that the funds that were raised have not been spent, adding that he is still working with the bank to resolve the looming foreclosure of his property.

In the midst of his explanation, Percival raised his voice at Rosan, stating that he gave her false information because she kept pressing him for some of the funds that the public raised to help save his home.

“Yes, I told you a certain lawyer had the money because I was tired of you asking me for money! So I told you that to get you off my back! That’s why I called the lawyer’s name and I apologised to him,” Percival said, seemingly in frustration. “You and Heritage were behind me for the money and ayo didn’t give me all the money and ayo coming here like I’m the criminal.”

He continued: “I’m tired! Stop! Ayo know better. Nobody is trying to defraud the public. Even the initial amount of money, I just said so you would leave me alone. I’m begging all of you to leave me alone.”

After Percival’s rant, many listeners called the show to give their views on the issue: while some agreed that he should be held accountable for the funds the public raised, a number of listeners appealed for a better way of handling the situation. One listener even told Rosan that she should have handled the matter in a better way as Dameon is her coworker.

In response, Rosan said she was only trying to get answers for the public who gave funds genuinely to help Percival.

It is unclear whether Percival will continue as a talk show host on Tola Radio.

Did Sindee financially benefit in any way from the funds collected for Damian? If so did she pay NI, SSB and payroll tax on her bit?

Perhaps we need a Commission of Inquiry into this fund raising debacle. This show is a hot mess without Heritage.

That show had some of the highest ratings I’ve seen! Views were up through the roof. Still not enough answers about the funds. Why not just give the bank the 22.7k?

Everyone allows polarizing talk show figures to blind them to the facts of the matter. The gentleman at the center of all this abused the generosity of the people that helped him, and in doing so has yet to address why t is the bank is still in the foreclosure process. On the surface he looks to have abused this generosity and his explanations do not make sense.

Where there is smoke there is generally fire! Let’s demand the facts from this individual, and not get bogged down in the semantics of a radio show!

  7. Just Saying says:

The man already came to terms with the idea of his house being auctioned. The money collected and stored in his savings account will go a long way in helping to easy the pain. #He ain’t broke!!!

It probably was too late. The Banks have their processes and if it was already in the process of foreclosure, they wouldn’t entertain any actions by him including trying to make payment.

    WHAT A HOT MESS

  11. I dunno says:

10k doesn’t seem like a bandaid. The man obviously owes way more money and didn’t have enough. Maybe he thought he was buying more time and gathering more money. Sometimes we try to get stuff under control but it spirals. ATP maybe it’s just not meant for him to be at that house and it’s all a sign. I think the money was used just for what they said “ to TRY to save the house” good luck to him.

  12. ??? says:

It’s People like these makes it difficult for those in dire need (financial crisis/emergency) to get assistance.

  13. Observet says:

    @Just Saying

You hit the mail on the head! He knows he can’t afford to keep this house. Why give the bank more money? So he’s keeping it.

  14. Really??!! says:

The long end and short end of this story is that there needs to be transparency. Who knows, maybe Damien is trying to the proper thing with the money or maybe he has spent some of it? But we are going off of what we know so far, and it is reflecting on Damien in a bad light since his house is now up for auction again? All the public wants to know is WHY this is when people have handed over their hard-earned money to help? Until Damien comes and tell the people (especially those who has helped him) what is really going on, then all kind of stories will continue to be thrown about. I think the proper thing to do is to just come out and say what is happening and people wouldn’t be so angry and wouldn’t have to form possibly illicit opinion of Damien based on the news/views on social media. Wish him all the best though as it must be hard to be under public scrutiny for such an issue.

  15. Dave says:

So, when he says “You and Heritage were behind me for the money and ayo didn’t give me all the money and ayo coming here like I’m the criminal.”
Where did Cindy and Heritage put the rest of the money???
Was this a for-profit fundraising venture? Thought they were just trying to help…??
Something isn’t right here, and it doesn’t sound like Dameon should be the only one under the microscope.

  18. hmm says:

bottom line is the money was given to be paid to the bank and the bank did not get the money. He already get caught lying about the lawyer. His vague explanation don’t make sense. If you talking with the bank still why it gone back up for auction a second time before yall finish ‘talking’? He himself say he aint ask nobody for nothing just let it take its natural course. I interpret that as he done know he cant make these payments going forward and the bank gonna probably still go with it. He need to give back the people dem their money. All what happen here is its going to be harder for anybody else to get help like this going forward cause you cant trust them.

  24. Shameful says:

If the two talk show host felt something was fishy they should have called the recipient of the funds in closed quarters with a lawyer and loan officer to discussed the issue as they were instrumental in giving him the money .

Friends don’t throw friends under the bus like that. They were not his friends. They were looking for high ratings and at the same time wanted a kick back from the funds raised.
