Top cop should step aside over leaked email — Damion Grange

Talk show host Damion Grange said he believes Police Commissioner Mark Collins should step aside over a leaked email that he sent to two of his officers suggesting that they discard evidence in an internal matter.

Collins attempted to ease speculation recently by explaining that he had nothing to hide in relation to the email.

The Commissioner acknowledged being aware of the leaked email, which was reportedly sent to other senior officers, demanding that video footage be destroyed and never be disclosed to the public.

However, according to Collins, the email in question was not linked to any serious or criminal investigation in the community.

“This was an internal matter between two police officers that I dealt with most severely and I said that if an allegation were made that one officer was going to release something about another, I’d refer to my professional standards department. That is the complete and proper thing to do in terms of poor behaviour and poor standards,” Collins said at the time.

But Grange, while appearing on the Talking Points show, suggested that more transparency needs to come from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), particularly in light of the alleged involvement of some officers in recent criminal matters.

“Based on the email, if it is to be believed, it looks bad,” Grange said. “And quite frankly, if I’m being honest, the explanation left, it left a lot to be desired.

Grange argued that he would not question the Commissioner’s version of events, but suggested there was an appearance of a cover-up at play.

“I’m going to take the Commissioner by his word,” he stated. “But because of the looks of this, and considering where we are, I am thinking that… we want the community to have confidence in the police force, and something like this, that the entire community is looking at as really bad. It puts a negative cloud over the police force.”

He added: “And to shun the appearance of evil, if I were the Commissioner, I would step out of the way so that we can continue to build on the credibility of the force.”

Meanwhile, co-host of the show, Violet Gaul, said she felt the leaked email was a situation that needed to be addressed properly and suggested that the Commissioner has repeatedly declined invitations to the show.

Thank you Damion. I couldn’t agree with you more. This commissioner has lost all credibility in the BVI. He is not trusted by the public and he does not have the confidence of a significant number of his work colleagues at RVIPF at all different ranks. He is known to be truthful and now he is asking for evidence to be destroyed. He has to go period. He is a failure.

He is definitely the worse commissioner we ever had in the RVIPF. He also has the title for the least trusted by the community and his peers. However his buddy the governor protects him and forgives his many indiscretions.

are useless from persons with no power. COP could spend the rest of his enforcement career in the BVI, build a home and then retire here just like the former COP. Of course retired COP’s are always involved in the UK’s FCDO, the BVI Guv’s office and the cabinet due to their experience of law enforcement in the BVI.

Who was the boat captain on Frandy’s (RIP) boat? Why was he never interviewed or cautioned by the authorities? Even the children know who he worked for (I will give you a clue, that person is currently residing in Florida….)

Now this is something worth marching on, we cannot have corrupt cops especially at the head and wanting to pass a police act that denies one of their constitutional rights. You must fix this Governor. I don’t even believe it was related to an internal matter as he stated.

  11. Totally agree says:

There are a many things about this man that needs urgent independent review:
    1) His overall lack of performance.
    2) HIS questionable closeness to the Governor who sheilds for him no matter what. There may be more here than meets the eye.
    3) His questionable handling of Frandy’s case given the bye given to all involved who are white and are suspects.
    4) Serious claims of him being racists.
    5) Serious concerns over his challenges with the truth.
    6) This questionable actions over this email. Where there is one there mostly likely will be more and much deeper in questionable conduct also. Other Caribbean & local police & public officers were sent home or put on leave by this Governor for less concerns than this email.
    7) The greatest the force has ever been divided coupled with low morale.
    8) His quick dismissing of wrong doing in the recent death of the UK officer who was found dead in his car in the sea. An urgent independent review of his cause of death needs to be done because school children say there is more here than meets the eye. Could it be he was on to a major thing inside and was going to expose that which may include information on such also about #2 above?
9)His lack of being able to be proactive to fight crime.
10)He seems to be focused on the COI plot at all costs at the expense of the overall safety of the BVI public. Probably this is why the Governor is protecting him no matter what.
    11) Closed all out police stations and diplomatically called the BVI public liars and stupid when they said this was the case.
    12) Seem to just arrest and investigate blacks just for the sake of doing so in most cases without the proper evidence so he can look good & effective thereby creating the backlog in the prison then wrongfully put the pressure and blame on the DPP. Could this be part of their bigger plot?
    13) Failure to do succession planning for the police force.
    14) Allegedly did a cover up investigation into some of his UK officers using the police boat to go island hoping to drink and getting drunk while on duty.
    15) Allegedly did a cover investigation into his officers using the police boat to leave and enter the territory illegally as well as transport non police officers while doing so.
    16) Allegedly unaccounted for some of the seized money and drugs over the years where the last COP needs to be included in this review also.
    17) Allegedly selling governments vehicle and property with personal gain. The last few UK Commissioners need to be included in this review.
    18) Concerns over income and personal accomplishments beyond salary. This also needs to include the last few UK Commissioners in this review.
The list is long but will stop there for now. There are too many concerns and allegations at the feet of this man and the last few UK COP which never reached the “so called” Governor’s independent COI. This COP needs to be relieved of his duties or sent home so an independent review & investigation be done in his performance but be done in a manner where the Governor cannot organize one to allow for a cover up. One wonders if this was a Caribbean or local person as Commissioner with all these public & internal concerns, if they would still be getting the Governor’s support and still be on the job? Just a question for food for thought but I think everyone knows the answer. The lawyer fellow is on to something bigger than all of us may think.

We have been on a roller coaster downward free fall ever since with Jaspert being publically vindicated on all fronts locally and internationally.
I have no doubt this scenario will hold true for this Commissioner.
Our real enemies are the duly elected reptilian body that are the enablers of crime and criminals past and present. A proven and revealing fact withuch more surprises to be unravelled in due time.

If the COP were from BVI, you would ask him to resign from his post, and furthermore, the Governor would be stepping in to replace him.
