Trio accused of Snoopy’s murder acquitted

The three men accused of murdering Devern ‘Snoopy’ Stanley back in 2016 have been acquitted.

The trio — Kareem Durant, Dakheme ‘Kimo’ Cheltenham, and their co-accused Vicardo ‘Scar’ Farrell — were freed in the High Court on Tuesday, November 15 after their attorneys submitted what is known as a no case submission.

Effectively, a no-case submission is made when the defence is arguing that the evidence led by the Prosecution fails to support a finding of guilt and that the court should dismiss the charge.

The Prosecution presented their case to the court over a two-week period; the duration of which ended on Monday. The Defence, which was led by attorney-at-law Jason Hamilton of St Kitts, entered the no case submission yesterday which Judge Thomas Astaphan upheld after giving the prosecution an opportunity to respond.

Cheltenham and Farrell were then allowed to go free but Durant remains on remand for an unrelated charge.

The other defence attorneys on the case were Valerie Stephens Gordon and Michael Maduro.

  2. Island peep says:

Someone has seriously bribed or otherwise intimidated persons involved with the prosecution of this case – either the Police deliberately didn’t pass on or gather information, or lost it, or the DPP’s office did the same. These murderers shouldn’t have been able to go free. Justice is needed still in this world, before God delivers it in the next.

  3. The facts says:

The DPP is just incompetent. This is the problem. Look at all the other cases they have lost. If you do not have sufficient evidence to bring a case forward then you shouldn’t be bringing it forward. It’s an abuse of process when you do so.

  5. Tell Me if this makes sense says:

So the Office of main purpose initially of The DPP is to assist the police legally with their evidence gathering, and to guide them if some things are missing, or needs to corrected, or at least to firm up some things. so in essence the DPP office should not per-say be doing investigations but at least ensuring that the elements needed “the mens rea and the actus rheas” is satisfied. However this is no what transpires sadly to say.
    1. The public wants some sort of quick arrest like it is done on the movies and tv series “48 hrs” they press the politicians to get things done hastily
    2. the media and public then puts press on the politicians and the RVIPF
    3. Out of the blue the DPP with her ego rather than to sit in the chair she has and evaluate things and guide the police then makes some childish, irrational hasty decision to charge rather that make a sound legal one.
So they are now playing limbo with peoples lives….knowing if it passes the no case stage it will be left into the hands of jurors who might be part of the same pool of persons that called for a quick arrest in the first place and boom guilty verdict.
But this is the real world with skilled learner judges so When this does not happen and the judge of the facts analyses the nonesense because there was no evidence or lack of evidence in the first place the judge has to stop the matter.

The person has now spent 6/10 years waiting for trial, the bloggers has had a field day with their names and the list goes on! The DPP cares the less because she is not assisting to pay the suit, the police are not being held liable so here comes the law suits.
Both the police and the DPP office needs to start from scratch or else the beautiful place is going down the drain in a criminal hand basket

  6. Wondering says:

I wonder how people like the lawyer who defended this bunch sleep at night. They have to sleep, shop and live in a society where these criminals are set free to roam. Do they know that they committed this heartless crime? I am sure they told them themselves. Yet they collect the defense money and just say ‘NEXT’! They obviously had to toss out their moral compass and plenty other things in order to do this. Hope you still want to live here after that. Of course, you have options if you don’t.

The DPP can only work with the materials they are given by the incompetent Police officers.
The incompetent buffoon who was in charge of CCTV is the one clearly identified as having been to blame submitting evidence that was identified as ‘lacking in several areas’!
    What a joke!
