Tropical depression may upgrade today, affect BVI Saturday

A tropical depression expected to affect the territory by this weekend is forecast to develop into a tropical storm later today, Wednesday, August 12.

A weather bulletin from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said the weather system has continued to become more organised and is likely to see strengthened wind speeds.

“Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour with higher gusts. Gradual strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today,” the DDM stated.

The DDM also detailed the latest position of the depression and said, “at its current track, it should pass near or north of the territory around Saturday.”

The centre of the weather system is said to be located approximately 1,489 miles east-south-east of the British Virgin Islands and is moving westerly near 15 miles per hour.

“This general motion is expected to continue through today,” the DDM said.

“A motion toward the west-northwest at a similar forward speed is forecast to begin tonight and continue through the rest of the week,” it added.

While there are no coastal watches or warnings which are in effect over the BVI, the DDM is asking all residents to continue monitoring the weather system as it nears the territory.

Humans never failed me yet. I came on expecting some idiot to mention something totally unrelated due to the current “climate” in the BVI and there you have it. Anyway hopefully the entire Caribbean is spared from the storm. One love.

You don’t always get what you expect. Who do you think you are. Everybody got their own opinion. Nothing wrong with yours either. Unlike some who wish that we could get wipe out, I do not wish a hurricane on nobody. BVI or any other island. Its true though. When a heavy storm passing the radio stations does stop playing street music and turn to rock of ages and everybody start to call in say dem praying. Remember all them politrician who got on ZBVI say they praying before Irma hit and how we pay for the mockery?

Come on people. Some of the policies and utterances are not right but don’t wish bad on the country.
There are numerous BVIlanders who love and support expats and it’s the minority who spew hate. Some of us too have to be careful that we don’t become what we don’t like.
Let us live and work together as best as we can because together we are stronger.
With that said, I know it’s hard all over but we can’t treat people who have lived here for years like a virus. This has been home and the only home for many. We have to have a heart. How would u feel if u were in the position of some of the expats who have been locked out? Tough decisions have to be made but we have to trod carefully.. U never know when u r going to need others to help u. Hurricane Irma was a case in point.

@hodgie and others, your hearts need to be purged because they have so much hate. How could you wish a cat 8 storm on anyone. I would not even wish that for an enemy. When you wish bad for others it comes back to you.
