Truck falls over Sophie Bay hill in two-vehicle accident

A truck catapulted over the hillside at Sophie Bay on the main island of Tortola sometime after 6 pm this evening, Wednesday, June 7.

In addition to the truck, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) was also involved and both vehicles appeared to be badly damaged based on amateur footage and photos being circulated and seen by BVI News.

A section of the barrier on the hillside was destroyed as the vehicle plummeted to the shore some distance below.

Details are sketchy at this time and it is not immediately clear how many people were involved and whether there are serious injuries resulting from the accident.

First responders have since arrived at the scene and are attending to the injured.

BVI News will bring more details as as this breaking news incident develops.

    I’ll bet some truck overloaded with gravel, not covered as is prescribed by law, dropped some on that corner so that the truck skidded and headed backwards towards the guardrails, probably connecting with the SUV on the way over. Of course by the time the deed was done whoever dropped the gravel was long gone and of course when we make a mess we don’t stop or come back to clean up, it’s someone else’s problem. So the elephant in the room is who dropped the gravel? We looking for him to take responsibility or we letting that one go because if the blue truck driver isn’t dead or dying then insurance going to fix the truck. Story done.
