Turnbull highlights those who tried to ‘sacrifice’ BVI

Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull

Labour Minister Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull has revealed that there were members of the House of Assembly who tried to ‘sacrifice’ the BVI for their own political interests during an important meeting that occurred when the UK was threatening to suspend the BVI’s constitution.

Turnbull did not mention any names but said the meeting took place on May 2 with some members of the House of Assembly and then UK Minister responsible for the Overseas Territories, Amanda Milling.

“Even though we look at people a certain way and we want to point fingers at the enemy that is fighting against us, one of the things we don’t look at is those who would be willing to sacrifice the country for themselves,” Turnbull stated. “That Monday morning, I witnessed that. But I could not stand for that because this Virgin Islands has never been about me.”

Turnbull said many of the critics who are against the work of the Government of National Unity played a role in the turbulent times that are being experienced in the territory’s politics.

“Don’t give me the articulate speech about having the right answers. Even those on the outside, don’t tell me all we could have done better because some of you were there too and some of you caused us to be here. But it’s easy to point the finger when you’re not in the seat,” the Minister stated emphatically.

Since the Government of National Unity started running the country, they’ve been heavily criticised by some for their handling of major political matters involving the United Kingdom. However, the members of that administration maintain they are doing the best they can for the territory and have so far made every decision in the best interest of the BVI in order to to keep power in the hands of elected leaders.

Do not be short sighted and let the UK make us forget that the last 3 years have been the most difficult times in the last 100years with COVID in the world and it did not come with a play book. The BVI government did well in a time when all economies were on the verge of collapsing. The UK took advantage of us during this time and abused their powers to try to do what they always wanted to do and this is not right. People like Mitch and Marlon sell us out and assisted them and now talking foolishness.

All Mitch and marlon wanted was a ministry. That’s all. The two of them are power hungry. What have they done since they had those ministries? What are their successes? I certainly do not see any.
