TWO CHARGED – Police find illegal gun, marijuana

Police have charged two men in connection with a loaded firearm and marijuana seized during a stop and search operation on Waterfront Drive in Road Town this morning, July 25.

Those jointly charged with carrying an unlicenced firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition are 24 year-old Jazz Freeman of Fahie Hill, and 47 year-old Allison Vanterpool of Josiah Bay – both on Tortola.

The men were also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, which the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said was found during the search.

An additional drug possession charge was placed against Freeman following a search of his premises.

“During the stop/search operation this morning on Waterfront Drive near the Queen Elizabeth Park, traffic officers of the Road Policing Unit pulled over a vehicle driven by Allison Vanterpool,” said the RVIPF.

“Vanterpool and the other occupant of the vehicle, Jazz Freeman, were searched and the cannabis was discovered. A further search of the vehicle [allegedly] uncovered a loaded 9mm pistol.”

The RVIPF said investigations are ongoing.
