Two contracts signed for road works on Jost Van Dyke

Government has awarded two local businessmen contracts valued almost $100,000 for the restoration of roadways on sections of Jost Van Dyke.

A government-commissioned media release said works will be conducted on the eastern end of the sister island as well as at Little Harbour.

Abraham Coakley was awarded a $40,152.92 contract to work on the eastern end of the island. He is tasked with excavating the footing of the road, installing a culvert, constructing a manhole, and constructing a retaining wall.

In the meantime, Philisianno Callwood of One Love Construction is the other businessman who is contracted with improving the roadways of Little Harbour.

His work includes the construction of a kerb wall, excavation for footing, and construction of a retaining wall.

Public urged to be cautious

These two contracts are the latest addition to a number of roadway projects expected to begin across the territory soon, including on Virgin Gorda’s Nail Bay road and Tortola’s Hannah Road.

While works are being conducted on these projects, Works Minister Kye Rymer is urging the travelling public to be vigilant and also take time to listen to the local bulletins for information on the access of these roads.

He said: “The public is therefore advised to take extreme caution and pay attention to road signs for their safety as the ministry continues to work to bring relief to people of the Virgin Islands.”

“I am happy to note that the Nail Bay road is partially opened to allow the residents and visitors affected to commute via this road while my team continues to carry out works in this area. The Hannah Hill road above the Elevator Hill road will begin works to address the undermining in this area shortly,” Minister Rymer added.
