A license holder from the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has been appointed the new Technical Director of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA).

The BVIFA said John Reilly’s appointment takes immediate effect.

The football association described the new technical director as a candidate who brings ‘a wealth of knowledge and experience’ to the post.

As Technical Director, Reilly will be responsible for reestablishing local school football, contributing to referee education, and building relationships with parents/guardians, among other things such as implementing new soccer programmes in the territory.

The BVIFA also said Reilly will be combining his new role at the Association with his current responsibilities at Cedar International School, where he is the Director of Football and Athletics.

“I am delighted and very honoured to be the new BVIFA Technical Director,” Reilly said.

“Having lived and worked in the BVI for over four years, I have gained a sound knowledge of the football community and my mission as the Technical Director will be to promote, develop, spur progress, and sustain all that is good in football here; including grassroots, schools, youth, women’s, and men’s programmes,” the UEFA-trained official added.

The BVIFA said besides working in club football, Reilly has held head coach positions in South Africa, Ireland, and the BVI.

BVIFA President, Andy Bickerton said the new Technical Director has demonstrated that he is aptly qualified for the role that has been described as ‘very challenging’.

“We are confident that his enthusiasm and drive will help us rebuild the many programmes that were devastated, along with our facilities, by the horrific storms of late last year,” Bickerton said.
