UPDATE: Gov’t offices to reopen Thursday

The Central Administration Complex where the main Government offices are located

Acting Governor Robert Mathavious said Government offices will open as usual on Thursday, August 10.

He is said to have made the decision in consultation with the Premier Dr D Orlando Smith, Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s Office Carolyn Stoutt-Igwe, and the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

DDM made the announcement Wednesday night, saying: “Electricity has been restored to the majority of the territory, and the BVI Electricity Corporation’s restoration teams are steadily addressing minor outstanding areas that are still without power.”

The DDM also noted that forecasts by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service indicate that some showers – which could be moderate to locally heavy at times – are still possible.

“These conditions are expected to linger across the area into Friday. Thereafter, dry and stable conditions are expected to return to the area as a high pressure ridge becomes dominant once again,” it said.
