A minor is among a group of men arrested in connection to an armed robbery on Virgin Gorda, Thursday night, October 15.

A total of four males were arrested.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in a media release Friday morning that last night’s robbery happened at a supermarket on Lee Road in the Valley.

“Initial reports indicate that two masked males, both armed with firearms, approached two individuals outside the supermarket, snatched their handbags, ran to the back of the store and escaped in a vehicle,” the RVIPF said.

“Officers of the Virgin Gorda Police Station responded immediately and apprehended three suspects, including the driver of the vehicle near a North Sound Basketball Court,” they added.

Police said a fourth suspect had fled the scene but was later captured and arrested.

Charges are pending for the quartet.

In the meantime, the RVIPF said the stolen items were recovered in the reported getaway vehicle. Investigations are said to be ongoing in the matter.

Has anyone noticed that many of the crimes committed recently are connected with a basketball court.I am wondering if it would be the same if the individuals involved were connected with the farming of a plot of land.

Four idiots off the street. The two guns probably cost more than what they make stealing hand bags.
They need to get these kids to spill the beans & send them away. 5 years deters no one.

15 years for possession of illegal fire arms reduced to 3 years for tips leading to arrest. 30 years for crimes committed with fire arms reduced respective of the crime for tips leading to arrest.

Every rainbow thug will sing & relocate as they get out. Solve our crimes and go bother another community.

What are the politicians standing for when excess cannabis is equivalent to possession of a fire arm!

  3. Tings says:

Tings are well in the BVI. The Territory has become a lawless society which has been brought on by Foy’s lack of leadership. The man hasn’t a clue and people are becoming desperate. While he kept the masses quarantined he allowed his cronies to smuggle into the Territory contraband including guns. This Foy should be indicted on crimes against humanity.

They need to bring charges against them when they turn 18, because they are now at an age where they should know better.

But this what happens Government when you keep people lock up and shut down the economy for a long period of time. Most people in VG work in tourism. Look you have cost in this beautiful island

Everybody saying good job RVIPF and that’s fine, but do you realize they now go up to Balsam’s Ghut where there’s no hard time, get 3 meals a day, wear whatever clothing and jewelry that they want and live life easy, not a care in the world. This place is getting scary, guns to rob purses? What the f**k?

  17. Quarantine says:

Thete is no quarantine in the BVI. Any activity that is going to happen after midnight is probably illegal anyway. So let’s get to bed by midnight and stay safe.

  18. Kids in the BVI says:

I know people don’t want to hear this, but it is not all the kids fault. There is no social service investment in this country. Where is the community center and swimming pool with lessons? There are shells of both these. Never completed. If you don’t invest in your youth, you end up with problems when they get older. PLEASE let’s start to spend some money on these kids.
Now you want to de-criminalize pot and bring in legal gambling. This is a recipe for building a crime spree. Finish the Olympic swimming pool in Virgin Gorda. Finish the community center. Give these kids something to do. Right now they ride scooters, smoke pot and come up with nutty ways to get money…not what makes them better people.

We don’t need to wait for the government to invest in our youth (or the kids will be adults). Instead of complaining – do something! We are a small island and a little improvement can go a long way. We can talk all day in these comment boxes or we can be useful through volunteering, organising the community and appealing to people outside of government who can help. We all know the challenges of our young people, let’s not turn our backs on them waiting for a government handout. Come on BVI, we got through Irma but the good work isn’t over. God bless – keep it going!
