UPDATE: Police confirm inmate’s death after ‘prison incident’

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has now confirmed the death of an inmate who they’ve only said died “following an incident at Her Majesty’s Prison”.

The law enforcement authority made that brief confirmatory statement minutes after 11 pm on Sunday, May 30 — the reported date of the incident.

“Details surrounding the incident are unclear at this point. Therefore, no other information is available at this time,” the RVIPF’s Information Unit said.

The police have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Meanwhile, unofficial reports to our news centre are that the inmate in question was stabbed. BVI News also understands that another inmate was injured during the incident and has been hospitalised.

Reports reaching BVI News is that at least one inmate has been badly injured and is feared dead as a result of a stabbing at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

Our news centre understands that the reported incident happened some time on Sunday, May 30.

Details are sketchy but it’s reported that two persons were injured during the alleged attack.
