UPDATE: Tropical Storm Beryl forms | Affects BVI late Sunday

Model forecast if the tropical depression.

The weather disturbance recently identified in the Atlantic has upgraded to a tropical storm.

Tropical Storm Beryl formed in the Atlantic on Thursday (July 5) and is located about 1,330 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles where the BVI is located.

Tropical Storm Beryl is forecast to have maximum sustained winds of 40 to 65 miles per hour.

The storm is further forecast to affect the British Virgin Islands late Sunday, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said.

It is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms and as the weather system gains strength, it is forecast to continue on a westward to a west-northwestward direction.

The department is encouraging residents and visitors to monitor the storm and ‘expedite preparations’ should it affect the territory. It said the DDM will provide updates as the system progresses.

Weak storm

A major daily newspaper in the United States, the Washington Post, has reported the storm as ‘tiny and weak’.

“Forecasters predict it will not grow to its full potential. In fact, this system will probably lose its designation in about three days — before it even reaches the Lesser Antilles,” the publication reported on Thursday, July 5.

    • CW says:

Clearly you lack an understanding of economics and how storm recovery and insurance works. Has your landlord gotten insurance payouts for repairs yet? And why are you complaining online? TALK TO YOUR LANDLORD. OH, RIGHT – YOU LIVE IN THE BVI. B**CHY VIRGIN ISLANDS. ALL PEOPLE DO IS CRY AND COMPLAIN AND THE ENTIRE WORLD KNOWS IT NOW*

Wicked! Jag will deal with them

  3. Sue says:

These landlords are just a bunch of thieves, all they doing is collecting and raising rent and not maintaining their damn buildings, as for the government they not doing a damn thing about price control and just to enlighten a few who didn’t know the same government ministers have shares in some of these very apartments or have the owners of apartment doing their campaigning for them. There is nothing but pure unfairness in this nature little secret island and is who is who you know to help you. I agree with you 100%.This is evil or good.

  5. I Have An Issue says:

A big concern is the debris that has not been cleaned up since last year’s hurricanes, and the damaged buildings where the owners have not done anything to rectify the situation.

Some homeowners cleaned up their properties by dumping their debris on other nearby empty lots (shame on them).

The objects lying around abandoned can all become flying missiles capable of damaging buildings that are being repaired.

I hope the persons involved show some consideration by cleaning around their properties to prevent loss to other property owners.

Excellent point! It’s the truth and all we can do now is pray.

      • Theo says:

Thing is about the BVI, the fact there is a govt or police or any authority body is just a sham. There really isn’t an authority………..unless you’re poor and unconnected.

Those who wait on the BVI govt to do anything just get shafted in the end.

Living in the BVI you take your life into your own hands whether you like it or not. When you need help unless it’s you and your connections, don’t expect anything from the govt.

  6. dj says:

and what have you dun to help yourselfs? sit on a wall and watch the women work for pay. It’s been 8 months since cane hit– we all just sittin waitin on someone else- da man– he an’t gonna help. cry cry cry we be good at dat!!!!

  7. No nonsense says:

I hope that the government will insist to the people that there is a noise act. People tend to run generators from 6 to 6. All noises should be stopped at MIDNIGHT. If not it should be reported to the nearest police station.

  8. Food for thought says:

@no nonsense these storms ain’t acting but from the sound of it u need not a generator neither me all the more reason to leave the users what is life if u can’t live n the police couldn’t even be trusted during Irma cause they joined with civilians engaging in unlawful behaviour

  9. No nonsense says:

What does enforcing the noise act during the operations of generators has to do with your responce. It simply state that their use MUST be regulated after a hurricane

  10. Observer says:

A WORD OF ADVICE – I believe that all past weather forecasts should be removed once there is an update on the weather. This would avoid confusing readers who may be unaware of the current update.
