USVI, Turks named among top destinations for Americans

As much uncertainty clouds the BVI’s December 1 reopening of its tourism industry, some neighbouring countries are already getting an indication that they are being favoured as hotspots for American travellers seeking vacations.

Turks & Caicos, The Bahamas, and the neighbouring US Virgin Islands have all made Squaremouth’s list of top destinations for American travellers.

Squaremouth is a travel insurance comparison site that compares travel insurance policies from every major travel insurance provider in the United States.

The data for this year’s list is based on all travel insurance policies purchased through squaremouth.com between March 12 to October 19, 2020.

In the past, Squaremouth’s list of top destinations was historically ruled by European countries but most have closed their borders to US citizens. This has pushed many Americans seeking a vacation to the Caribbean.

This year, Jamaica and Aruba also made the list.

But prior to COVID-19, The Bahamas and Costa Rica were the only Caribbean countries to ever make the top 10 list. Islands in the Caribbean now comprise half of the top 10 destinations of American travellers.

As December 1 draws closer, many are anxious to see the number of visitors who will be choosing the BVI as a vacation destination.

This is in light of several cancellations that businesses recently reported after the government announced protocols for tourists wishing to travel to the territory.

Some sections of the public say the protocols are too stringent and will deter visitors.

The government maintains that the protocols are necessary to prevent another outbreak of COVID-19 in the community.

Thanks to the one eye king and the blind bandits. What a mistake we made electing this i*******ent bunch of people. We need to vote for people who can get things done and not those who could lie the best.

We don’t need Americans any longer- we could do without them, especially the racists. They don’t like black people so why them coming here?

Who vex vex but from the get go the BVI was on its way to delcining Visitors number and the government amongst other kep components are to blame.

Tourism is a fast past rapid growing industry you cant come year after year with the same products and think it will remain to be the centre of attraction for visitors, the way i see it the BVI lack the basic infrastructure plan to produce and provide new products to attract person to the shores. The leaders of this small group of islands focus on all the wrong things and the dirty deem is evident today. The tourism industry in the BVI has slip away. Charter company are moving hotels are closing and the ba****d playing it cool. We are to be safe but nothing hurts your economy more than having ridiculous protocols tourism is the engines of that drives to BVI the government has stop by the fuel station but didnt fuel up so guess what people will be left struggling to make it home. I pray the leaders see the mistakes and understand we elected you to hanle our affairs not lead us into a great depression. Rhe Premire and his team speaks a good game on social media internet and radio, but the ideas are far from rhe reality we come to see. The i***t premire sounded like trump we he tried to blame the tourist for booking ahead of this stupid idea of a reopen. These money greedy ideas is what going to kill this place. The fools see dollar sign and not the long run. U wanna monitor people movements like the people commit a crime what happen to the security. 400.00 is asking to much and after they quarantine you cut them loose to see basically what they see last year even prisoner come from jail and see change. I know what i said will touch person out there but the truth is we soon going have to play the role of police to protect yourselves when the stupid decisions the government made kills the economy and ppl start robbing and killing to make ends meet.

I have been chartering a sailboat every year for the last ten. Of course I disappointed when I had to cancel our trip scheduled for this July, because of the pandemic. The charter company I rented from is doing a great job providing me updated info regarding the opening and rescheduling, but I feel there pain. I have sailboat in Lake Michigan, and what not a better place to social distance than in a boat. It can work without so many protocols that will discourage visitors. I enjoy spending my hard earned money in the BVI and supporting the local businesses on each of the Islands. I just hope I don’t have tell my party of 15 to hold onto your money for another year because of the latest protocols that have established. To all the friends I have made over the years, and all the we businesses my party and I have supported throughout the years, “See you soon”.
