Vanterpool blasts opponents for ‘sudden emergence’ in D4

Vanterpool

National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for the Fourth District, Mark Vanterpool, has blasted his political rivals for what he believes to be their sudden emergence in the constituency to now appear as saviours of the district.

He described his rivals who are now seeking to unseat him, as ‘Johnnies-come-lately’ — a term used to describe nocive latecomers.

“I asked those who are coming around now, tell me, where were they when my people needed them? On September 6 when the storm hit, they were confused, all of us were confused about where to go next and what to do next. Where were they on that morning after Hurricane Irma? This is how I care for my people. Talk is cheap, but money buys land,” Vanterpool said while addressing his constituents on Saturday.

“Representation is not about concrete and steel, it is not about building wells and cruise ship docks and all the others. Representation for your people, it’s where you love the people, and you take care of the people.”

The veteran politician said his people-centre representation is seen through initiatives such as the scholarship fund he sent up for students in the Fourth Electoral District who were in need.

Achievements and plans

Vanterpool said he will provide a booklet this week that outlines his other accomplishments in the last 20 years as well as his plans for the district if re-elected into office.

In the meantime, he said plans are afoot to improve the mangrove boardwalk in Road Town, which falls under his district. He said designs already have been completed for that project.

Vanterpool also said he intends to revitalise the bandstand in District Four.

Road works is indeed in need of a saviour Mr. Vanterpool! Not just district 4. Just as an example take a look at the road next to the Magistrate’s court. I understand that’s where people go for off-road driving experience and then use someone’s private property for turning around when they realize that off-road driving requires vehicles that are built for that purpose. Why make the road worse if there is no intention of seeing the job to the end? The machinery has been parked across from the Althea Primary School for over two weeks since the road had been dug up. It was promising just like a campaign promise! Was this supposed to be just another election promise? If residents want it fixed they should vote you in again? They can’t be fooled after 4 years of waiting. The road should have been fixed years ago! The drain that runs from Horse Path along what used to be Mr. Christian’s property should be addressed if ever that road is going to be built to last for 10 years. Give us a miracle now…just do!

You were absent for the past eight years Mark Vanterpool as far as representing all the people. You were there for Self, and your Kroonies. This time around we are totally committed to sending you home, and getting some one who will be a representative for all the people.

..And you are right, Honourable Vanterpool!

You were the available representative present, during the storms of twenty-seventeen.And you gave selflessly of your time and resources to help our people. And for that, we will be eternally gratefully.

But you gave of yourself to be in a position such as this. And in times of distress, this is what is expected of you.

Are you now saying, that NONE of your opponents did anything to help anyone during those storms. And were they supposed to make pronouncements of their plans to help their fellow constituents available on the mediums and online blogs..

And since when does one uses such a tragedy as those storms of twenty-seventeen as a guage to determine who is fit for political office.

I think,Honourable Vanterpool, you should stick to what you do best; Campaign hard and well.

You’re a great politician and representative and I think the polls on election day will reflect just that!

    Good Luck!

You may have done many things that are credit worthy, Mr. Vanterpool, but so many promises have not been kept, so it is time to see if one of the others can help – it can’t be any worse and it may be better

Money buy a lot of things. Plane, Boat, vacation etc. But the moral character of politicians in the Virgin Islands must improve in the next few days. All who are without good moral character, not home with spouse, rumored to be with persons other than your wife, dishonest in business and religion and unable to talk the truth, step down and do us all a favor.

Mark? do you realized that as a Minister of Government, specifically the MC&W, it was your responsibility after the storm to ensure that people and the infrastructure of the Territory were ok? what the eff you mean about where were they, they were a part of the people whose homes, cars, lives etc were damaged and do not like how it was handled. Are you saying that the D4 is only for you and yours? GTFOH with that bullshit. You may be reelected, you may not; however, the Constitution did not say that Mark should only run in D4, it specified the qualifications to run. I wonder if you really qualify?
