Vanterpool has undergone Police Commissioner training

Police Commissioner Michael Matthews has revealed that the training Superintendent Jacqueline Vanterpool received in the UK recently is only done by future Commissioners of Police.

The training is called the Strategic Command Program and Vanterpool underwent the course from January 6 to March 19 this year.

While she completed the command program, Commissioner Matthews declined to explicitly state whether Superintendent Vanterpool is currently a contender to become his immediate successor when he vacates his post in less than six months.

He, however, said: “The Strategic Command Program is for future Commissioners of Police. We organised that, we prepared Jackie for that. We sent her over to the UK and as a result of that, Jackie’s currently got a UK mentor who’s in regular contact with her, guiding her, helping her develop her training and personal development further, to wherever she wants to take her career.”

Commissioner Matthews said the opportunity Superintendent Vanterpool received shows that more is being done to prepare locals to take top positions in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

“To put it bluntly, I just simply do not accept the argument that we haven’t done enough. What I do accept is there’s more to do. But we cannot sit in a bubble, in isolation here and say we’ve got all the skills that’s necessary. It would be lovely if we did. But the reality is we haven’t but we’ve been on a journey,” the Commissioner explained.

He added that he is one of four UK officers in the BVI’s police force, something he sees as a positive sign since there were far more UK officers holding senior positions in previous years.

With less than six months to go before his departure, residents are anxious to see who will be appointed to the highest post in the BVI’s police force.

There are many favourites, including Superintendent Vanterpool who is frequently touted as a suitable candidate for the post.

In 2018, the highly-respected Superintendent became the first female in the history of the British Virgin Islands to command the parade for the Queen’s Birthday celebrations.

She’s also the first female local to become a Superintendent in the RVIPF — a rank she has held for four years now.

For the police services to run smoothly, Someone from the UK should be appointed to this position. She is a wonderful lady but the way the BVI is, anyone local in a high position often turn their eyes blind because to many people get in their ears for the wrong reasons.

It is quite obvious that majority of the BVI community do not want what is BEST for the BVI and don’t want our people to be safe….and also for unsolved murders to be solved CAUSE anyone who want the best for this place know that a local can never be a good commissioner cause favouritism will reign

Roman philosopher Seneca says: “luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. Supt. Jacqueline Vanterpool has prepared herself well for the opportunity to serve as CoP. Her preparation merits elevation to the top position in the RVIPF.

She has the experience, education, leadership/managerial, interpersonal, professional, temperament………skills and is eminently qualified for the job in the RVIPF. She has put in the hard work that prepared her well and makes her eminently qualified for the job. Confident that she would effectively lead the RVIPF and continue its mission of serving and protecting the public.

Moreover, her selection as CoP would be consistent be the VI expressed goal of getting qualified Virgin Islanders to lead major institutions, agencies, departments…….etc in the VI.

Did Supt. Vanterpool tell you she is not ready. Stop being an obstacle to personal and development. People like you are confidence deflators, not inspirations, that people should not be around.

This EXACTLY the news that we all need to read!

Lets hope this is the beginning of females in the force assuming CRITICAL positions of leadership,in governmental agencies, up to, and including, for perpetuity!

  13. Socrates says:

Why is the BVI from different from other locales in letting its police force be led by a local? Are not police forces in countries, cities, towns…….etc almost everywhere led by locals? Are not police forces in other places that are led by locals functioning, serving and protecting their communities? Is the conditioning and slavish mentality still so pervasive in the community that we are still have and falsely believing the sickening dependency mentality that our institutions have to be led by expatriates, especially White expats?

Further, is the self esteem, confidence, self worth, national pride…….etc so low that we are believing that qualified people cannot effectively, professionally, uncompromisingly……etc function in the BVI community? Why are we as a people so self-hating and not acting in our own self interest? Why are we so belittling and untrusting of our own? It is way past time that the slavery conditioning garbage be taken to Pockwood Pond to the hung heap and burned.

It is interesting that some believe that putting a local as CoP would not work because that person would be easily compromised. How insulting. Do locals head most of our sister regional countries police forces? Are the police forces in the UK led by expats because putting locals in the positions would compromise them? Let’s stop the hypocrisy, nonsense, foolishness. Let’s us do as other countries do and put out qualified locals to lead our institutions. Let’s stop sacrificing our own to satisfy the fakes belief of others.
