Vanterpool raised several concerns with NDP before internal election
A leaked letter seen by BVI News has revealed that former legislator Mark Vanterpool raised concerns about the National Democratic Party’s (NDP) internal election process days before the party’s April 18 internal election.
Vanterpool, who went on to lose the chairmanship race to now-party leader Marlon Penn, wrote to interim president John Cline questioning how delegates were selected in key districts.
The letter shows that Vanterpool was asking whether the proper meetings were held and whether the right people were chosen to vote. He pointed specifically to Districts 1 and 5, suggesting there may not have been proper district meetings to decide who should represent those areas at the convention.
He also raised concerns about fairness, including whether some individuals were representing districts they were not properly connected to, and whether the party’s constitution was being followed as intended.
Vanterpool warned that if members felt the process was not fair, it could hurt unity within the party. He even suggested delaying the finalisation of delegate lists to allow more time for proper meetings and broader participation.
BVI News understands that Vanterpool did not receive an official reply to date.
The leaked letter adds fresh context to ongoing questions about internal tensions within the NDP as it seeks to regroup ahead of the next general election.
Notably, Vanterpool has not publicly commented on the matter since the convention. His silence has raised eyebrows, particularly after he removed NDP branding from his vehicle shortly after the vote. The vehicle had been wrapped in party colours in the lead-up to the convention, signalling his strong bid for leadership.
That sudden shift — from highly visible support to quiet removal — has left many wondering whether Vanterpool plans to remain within the reunited NDP or take a different political direction.

Mark what you don’t tell them truth. Tell them that you were allegedly giving out envelopes to help stir it in your direction. Marlon and his cron—s allegedly fixed up voting list before the party come back together so he could have an advantage going into the convention. He did not hold a convention for 7 years because he was afraid of losing. He allegedly rigged this one to win by leaving off NDP known stalwarts and putting on strangers who nobody ever saw before. The VI Constitution 2007 does not say the Deputy Chairman is the Deputy Premier chosen by the majority of the elected members. Come election night if the NDP gets to the finish line, the members can decide who should be the Deputy Premier. It is obvious that Marlon wanted leadership and could not decide to let Ronnie lead, since they do not want Myron, and he be the deputy. The public would have been more welcoming. But I saw them voted and counted, but I don’t know what went on behind the scene. Mitch still looking position and can’t represent Second District, and looking to put his father to be Speaker in the House. Let his father go siddung. He is an evil man who can’t control his church-boys.
So my question is, and I might add so are many others, if the esteemed gentleman had been successful in his bid for chairmanship, would those concerns be valid? Or would he celebrate?

How do you win the party election but lose the public trust? There was only one outcome that would have the voting public in support of the NDP and that would be Skelton as head and Marlon or Myron as second.Anything other than that and the public isnt studying the NDP. Mark Does Not Care About The BVI
The delegate list was full of persons registered to vote in district a but serving as delegates in district b. At that moment, you knew the Election was rigged and intended to go in a particular way. Ministries promised to candidates who haven’t even been elected to ensure that their delegates vote for them. It was a hot mess!!! I believe Mark and Ronnie should have just left it alone. Marlon had no intention of running a fair and democratic internal election. NDP is his and his alone because he never left. However, the greater NDP family does not want him because they know he is weak. But his handlers and Marlon think too highly of themselves to do what’s right for the party.
