Vanterpool scraps plans to turn Admin building into commercial complex

People’s Leadership Movement (PLM) founder Mark Vanterpool has backed away from his recent proposal to transform the Ralph T O’Neal Administration Complex into a commercial facility, following public pushback against the idea.

Vanterpool confirmed the change in position during a recent episode of his People’s Mic podcast, acknowledging that residents had expressed a clear preference for retaining the building as the central location for government services.

“We’ve been listening to your feedback. Some of them, we will take what you’re saying and make adjustments in our policies as we go along because this is a listening tour first,” Vanterpool stated.

He continued: “You have given us views, for example, about the admin building, so we’re backing it off on that, and we want to let you know that your views have been heard.”

Earlier this month, Vanterpool suggested repurposing the government complex in Road Town into a commercial hub, with a hotel, shopping facilities, retail outlets and spaces for entrepreneurs.

His proposal was aimed at revitalising Road Town’s commercial activity, particularly after 5 pm when government offices close and the capital becomes noticeably quieter. However, the suggestion attracted criticism from residents who questioned the wisdom of converting a major government asset into a shopping facility instead of restoring it for public administration.

Vanterpool has now acknowledged those concerns and thrown his support behind retaining the building for government operations.

“You told us that you want a central administration building. We’re with you on that. Let’s go with it and hopefully we’ll see the government move back into the admin building,” he declared.

The PLM founder said his party would continue adjusting its proposals based on public feedback, stressing that residents would have a meaningful voice in shaping its policies.

“We’re here to make a change in our BVI, and you’re a part of it. Your voice counts,” he said.

For that statement even to be spoken is a sign of how out of touch with reality these politicians are. Now you want to backtrack and ‘listen’ to the people only to turn around and do what you want after the votes achieved

Thank you someone with sense, just because they came to the realization that they spoke pure buffoonery, doesn’t mean they are gonna keep their word once elected. We’ve seen plenty of promises go broken

Time to scrap his idea that he will be useful to the VI as a member of the HOA.

So if this building was to be turned to a commercial complex,so his plan would be to continue renting space for government workers. If it’s not good for government why should it be good for commercial use. Why not build another complex. You all must stop playing with the taxes payers money. Stop it,this is pure greed.Just how you coming to the people for votes, why not to them and hear them out first before spitting rubbish from your mouth.

He said the quiet part out loud when he seemed more concerned about the landlords than anything else. It was a bad idea from the get and he made it even worse.

Its such a “duh” idea of using the admin building for admin building purposes. Everytime I see someone suggest otherwise, they hurt their political hopes. Mark you now can’t be trusted

Just to make sure the plan does not change for government to rent his bolos-bought building.
