Minister of Communication and Works Mark Vanterpool said plans are afoot to raise two bridges, adding that some of the bridges were flooded this month after being blocked by rubble.

One of those to be made higher is located near the fire station in Road Town, while the other is in the Purcell area of Tortola.

“The bridge by the fire station – a new bridge needs to be put there and raised higher. We are planning that. We had some issues surrounding it, but we are working on that,” he explained in an interview with BVI News Online.

Vanterpool further said: “The bridge by Purcell that comes out onto the main road needs to be raised higher also, but it would mean raising all of the highway at the same time to match it. It’s not a very simple fix, but we are working towards it.”
