VG airport misses reopening date, works still ongoing

Residents and visitors will have to wait a while longer before the Taddy Bay Airport on Virgin Gorda reopens.

The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) had said the airport would have reopened by October 29 of this week.

But when contacted on Wednesday, BVIAA’s Deputy Managing Director, Diana Maduro, said infrastructural works to the facility are still not complete.

She told BVI News that certain ‘supplies’ for these works had to be shipped from abroad, adding that those shipments experienced a delay. This delay is what has stalled the completion of works to the airport, she said.

When asked the new date when airport operations will resume, Maduro told BVI News she could not say when the Virgin Gorda-based facility will reopen.

She, however, reported that the new fire truck for the facility has arrived in the territory and is now at the TB Lettsome International Airport waiting to be transported to Virgin Gorda.

A malfunctioning fire truck was said to be the primary cause of the airport’s closure back in April.

Following that announcement, the BVIAA said they planned to resurface the airport’s runway and construct a station to house the new fire truck.

The same old crap when the local politicians handle projects. There are always delays with no excuses. An original date for opening is set but now there is no date. How is that possible? An original opening date was set!! Every project in the BVI should come with the following when a completion date and a budget is requested. “it’ll be done when it’s done and it’ll cost what it costs”. Maybe make it the Territory motto!!!

A public building project has fallen behind schedule? I can’t tell how shocked I am not.

Seriously, these people in power couldn’t run a soup kitchen if we cooked the soup, served it and washed up afterwards! Time for change! A new way forward for Virgin Gorda is the only way to survive.

Look back at the last 25 years and tell me if changing politicians will change anything. The real issues are staring us down the face but we pretend it’s something else.

  4. Curious Cat says:

The set opening date was October 29th. Today is November 1st. Shouldn’t we have known this before hand, or did someone just wake up to find that the date passed?
As a people, we stay silent for too long that folks just hand us BS.

  5. VG68 says:

Absolutely absurd & unacceptable. Now the BVIAA can’t even give a date ??!!!!! Excuse after excuse. How these people in power sleep at night is beyond me. “They do not want the VG Airport open. Mark my words.

Yaayyaya to much games. From get go people who working on the project and government employees at the airport said probably December not November. Also what’s the update with the fire truck? Wasn’t that a huge key reasons the air port close?

  7. VG says:

Its open now. Where is that headline
