VG airport ready for flights, facility reopens

Residents and visitors are now being invited to start booking flights through the Taddy Bay Airport of Virgin Gorda as the facility as reopened.

The airport reopened last Friday, November 2, Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) Denniston Frazer has reported.

He said a new crash fire tender (fire truck) is now in place at the facility and the landing strip which was badly damaged has been as been repaired and ready.

The airport reopened a mere four days after its intended reopening date.

“The entire BVI Airports Authority team thanks the travelling public for its indulgence whilst they worked to rectify the many problems that led to the closure of the airport, in the preservation of safety,” the BVIAA said on Monday.

It continued: “The BVI Airports Authority aims to develop and maintain world-class airports which provide safe and efficient gateways to the Virgin Islands and the world.”

A malfunctioning fire truck was said to be the primary cause of the airport’s closure back in April.

Following that announcement, the BVIAA said they planned to resurface the airport’s runway and construct a station to house the new fire truck.
