VG Clinic temporarily relocated due to air quality concerns
The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has temporarily relocated emergency services from the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic after a building issue compromised air quality at the Virgin Gorda facility.
Twenty-four-hour emergency services are now operating from St Mary’s Anglican Hall while maintenance workers address the problem.
The Authority initially announced on September 3 that staff availability had been affected and temporarily limited the clinic to emergency cases. It later disclosed that a minor building issue had affected the facility’s air quality.
“Due to a minor building issue that has compromised air quality within the facility, the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic is temporarily adjusting its services while the maintenance team addresses the issue,” the BVIHSA stated.
The Authority said it would also conduct a scheduled deep cleaning to ensure that the building is safe for staff and patients.
Under the temporary arrangements, residents can access wound-dressing services at the North Sound Clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The clinic will also provide vaccinations, while home visits will continue as normal.
The North Sound Clinic will operate from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. Residents seeking information about its services can call 440-1661.
Patients requiring prescription refills should telephone 284-440-6105 before 11 am. They can collect filled prescriptions from St Mary’s Anglican Hall at 2 pm.
The Authority advised residents to call 911 in an emergency.
The latest disruption follows earlier remedial work at the Nurse Iris O’Neal Clinic. Services returned to the facility in February after installing air-conditioning equipment, completing comprehensive cleaning, and conducting an air-quality assessment. Staff and equipment had operated from a temporary field hospital while the work proceeded.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our patients and the wider community while these temporary arrangements are in place,” the BVIHSA stated.
The Authority said it would issue further updates once normal operations could resume.

This in a relatively new $ 6 million building? Pretty scant on detail as to the air quality issue though it sounds like a mold issue probably arising from construction defects since if’s been reported that the building is scheduled for roof repairs.

If the architect’s technical capabilities are as wanting as his concept of aesthetics, no wonder the roof leaks and the building’s air quality is compromised.
This place is a joke.
But as I always say, “what you pay for is what you get”
A $6 million building. Over $562k was spent on a roof refurbishment just weeks ago. Previous air-quality issues. And now emergency services have been relocated again.
We the people have every right to ask: what is really going on with this building?
At some point, ‘building issues’ is no longer an acceptable explanation. It is time for the BVIHSA and the relevant government officials to provide a full public update, release the facts, and explain why a facility that has received millions in investment continues to face recurring problems.
Our island home deserves transparency, accountability, and a healthcare facility that is fit for purpose. We should not have to keep paying for the same problem over and over again.
