VG ‘peacemaker’ slapped with multiple charges, pleads guilty

A Virgin Gorda man who claimed he was the peacemaker in a fight at a festival event on the sister island last year, has been slapped with multiple charges.

During his appearance before Magistrate Shawn Innocent on Thursday, the accused, Dwayne Lennard, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, indecent language, and failing to comply with an order given by a police officer.

What the court heard happened

The court heard that on April 17 last year, a fight broke out between two women in the vicinity of the now-closed Scotiabank building in the Valley.

It is alleged that during the physical altercation, the women — who are yet to appear to answer to their charges — allegedly assaulted two police officers who had responded to the disturbance.

It was during that time Lennard reportedly tried to intervene.

The accused man then told the officers: “I’m trying to stop the f***ing fight, what’s wrong with you? Get your mother s**** from here, I’m a member of the Virgin Gorda Festival Committee.”

It is reported that police proceeded to arrest Lennard but he resisted them and he had to be pepper-sprayed and subdued.

He was subsequently arrested and charged for the aforementioned offences.

Lennard is scheduled to return to court on December 13 at which time the aforementioned feuding women will make their first court appearance in relation to the incident.

Based on that comment, it’s my opinion that people like you treasure lawlessness. I hope whenever a crime happens to you that you do not call the police for help. Apparently you have a better solution.

If you was around when it happened you would understand but this is just another case of trying to tear down our young men …everyone around told the cops he was stopping the fight

      • VG versus Tortola says:

VG people da most devisive in the BVI. Every opportunity, must bring Tola into it. We talking about one thing but gotta start comparing between Tola youth and VG youth. There are so many variables here…just shows where the mentality is…

When you think you better than everyone else…

        Karma!

  12. Lol says:

ROCK MAN you think what you talking bout there is you and your body them alone that can do. Well let it start. Bvinewsonline.com I hope you post this one because I want ROCK MAN AND HIS P—K BODDIES TO SEE IT.

    Horsesh—
Where the stupid cats was fighting. He try to help cops gettinwhipped by girls and then they pull rank on him cause they embarrassed. Why he up before the ladies ?
Waste time in this and let all u people run drugs and skip tax.

  14. Azz says:

If u would read the person who brought it up name tola

  15. Candi says:

Based on what I read in the article, I would say that the young man was a bit frustrated when the officers approached him. He probably felt attacked, although he was trying to help the situation. I am not saying that I condone that behavior, but I do understand.

The officers could have handled that differently. Perhaps they should have pulled the ladies apart and get a statement from the young man. Now look, his name is in the system.

  16. Hmm says:

The police gave no form of understanding and leniency except for their gang.

Society works without them, people have a sense of right and wrong hence trying to break up the fight.

Could they not understand the man will be upset, and that some peoples use bad words when upset, yet he was trying to do the right thing???

    Without pepper spray?

Next he probably plead guilty cause those police will back each others story, and he would get a worse sentance.

They’re so petty someone insult them they must see his as the enemey now and pepper spray.

They have no right to treat the mans body that way, especially when he saw a situation and was brave enough to help.

  17. ..... says:

Fist of all it was not vg police who was there at the fight last time I check it was the police officers from tola secondly y tf would u pepper spray someone after being told several times from several different people he parting it ????? Ayo down island police like to come to other people place and do wa ayo like cause I know for sure a local police officer would of just parted the fight n tell the young man it’s ok we have it from here or thanks for trying to help ‼️

  18. ..... says:

It was not vg police who did this to him ‼️

  19. NotPayingTax says:

ITS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT ALL DOWN ISLAND POLICE OFFICERS DONT LIKE LOCAL PERSONS FIRST AND FOREMOST,MANY TIMES IVE SEEN NUMEROUS INNOCENT YOUNG MEN BEING UNJUSTLY PROVOKED BY THESE SAID DOWN ISLAND OFFICERS WHO ARE SWORN IN TO PROTECT & SERVE US BUT INSTEAD USE THE “IM A POLICE” UMBRELLA TO CARRY OUT THERE OWN MALICE AND THEN THE CHIEF INSPECTORS AND WHOM EVER WONDER WHY THE LOCALS DONT COOPERATE WITH THEM ? ITS BECAUSE AYO ALWAYS DOING DUMB FXXK,WHEN AYO KNOWINGLY ALLOWING PEOPLE WITHIN THE POLICE FORCE TO EXTORT & PARTAKE IN ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES THEN WANT TO COME FXXK UP PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO ACTUALLY GAF ENOUGH TO STAND UP FOR RIGHT & NOT SEE SXXT HAPPEN IN THEM HOWNTOWN,WHEN AYO START TO MAKE SOME MUCH NEEDED CHANGES WITHIN THE FORCE THEN ILL CONTRIBUTE TO TAX BUT AS SO LONG AS MAJORITY OF THE FORCE IS A BUNCH OF DOWN ISLAND IMMIGRANTS WHO COME FROM WHICH EVER BUSH ISLAND THEM COME FROM TO OUR BEAUTIFUL NATURES SECRET AYO WONT GET A DIME OF TAX MONEY FROM THIS YOUTH. P.S AYO NEED TO SEND BACK ALOT OF OFFICERS TO THE HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH CLASSES & MAKE SURE THEM KNOW HOW TO READ AND SPELL CAUSE IF THEM CONTINUE TO GIVE OUT TICKETS WITH HORRIBLY SPELLED NAMES,YALL WONT BE COLLECTING NO MONEY !!

  20. hmm says:

Well fire all the down island police and bring in some from the UK I think that would be better for the bvi.
