Victim in Rise & Shine fight airlifted to Colombia for treatment
BVI News understands that one of the victims who suffered serious injuries during a series of fights at the Rise and Shine Tramp earlier this month had to be airlifted to Colombia for specialised medical treatment.
Information reaching our news centre indicates that the victim, a 28-year-old BVI national, was struck in the head during the August 4 event near the Administration Complex in Road Town. Our sources say the victim was not one of the main offenders, but was attempting to break up physical confrontations when he was injured. It’s also understood that some time after the fights subsided, the victim reportedly moved away from the scene but was struck in his head with an unknown object.
The blow reportedly caused him to lose consciousness. He was subsequently treated at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital before being medically evacuated to Colombia on August 5 because the hospital was unable to provide the specialised treatment required. BVI News understands that the victim later underwent successful surgery in Colombia.
The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.
Late last week, police confirmed that two men were charged following investigations into the Rise and Shine altercation. Raykoy Larch, 20, of Long Bush, was charged with Wounding and Armed with an Offensive Weapon. He was granted $8,000 bail to return on October 8.
Makai Francis, 26, of Little Dix Hill, was charged with Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm and granted $10,000 bail to return on September 24. Francis was also among those involved in confrontations during the event and was himself injured during the disturbances.
Police said investigations into other public safety incidents during the recently concluded festival season remain ongoing.

Unfortunate incident and wishing a healthy recovery but gosh the gov got it priorities out of order if someone have to be air lifted ~1000 miles away for trauma recovery
IMHO Puerto Rico is reluctant to take on medical emergencies from the BVIs because we have a long history of stiffing them.
So that means it is serious because he had to be airlifted out of the Territory for treatment.
Sometimes it is best you mind your business. If anything you let the police handle it. You end up trying to help and you end up getting messed up.

Wishing the young man a speedy recovery. For those talking about priorities ask yourself what it would cost for the BVI to have a trauma center of that level here. Are you willing to pay? Even in the USA depending on the state you are in and extent of injuries, you would be flown to a trauma center or specialist facility to deal with the extensive injuries, it’s not new. It’s actually a good thing that the BVI/NHI have forged these relationships with Colombia, Jamaica etc so that BVI people can access quality care for major injuries/illnesses at a fraction of the cost.
you will pay anything to have a love one back that could’ve survived a car accident or severe emergency because their is proper resources on island not everyone will be granted the opportunity to be air transported off island
Exactly! What kind of service can one really get at The Orlando Smith( Peebles Hospital) not even the Purple Palace couldn’t render any service. Seriously, healthcare provision in the BVI sucks! Fir all the University Graduates upon returning home and were denied employment at BVIHSA the Territory is going down the drain. The provision of caring for the sick is no longer humanity, it’s all about money $$$$
