VIP gov’t must step up performance, says Skelton Cline

Claude Skelton Cline

Talk show host Claude Skelton Cline has urged the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government to move swiftly to improve their performance, adding that they are running out of time to make important investments in public infrastructure needed in the territory.

Speaking on his Honestly Speaking radio show on April 29, Skelton Cline said the upgrading of certain public assets will be the hallmark of success for any government in the BVI. But he said not much has been done in revitalizing some important developments.

“The VIP is now in their third year of governance and it is my desire to ensure that you are a successful government but you’re running out of time, particularly on the development portfolio – Prospect Reef, the airport (TB Lettsome), West End Ferry Terminal,” Skelton Cline stated.

He added: “When a government is running out of time, it means that the country is running out of time and you (government) got a four-year term. There are certain things you have to get done so the citizens can evaluate your performance. I am encouraging you to step up the pace, in spite of the obstacles.”

The outspoken talk show host, who has worked with different government administrations as a consultant, also said he hopes the current government gets the “right personnel and resources in place to reflect what you have communicated to the people of this country.”

The current VIP government has been criticized for moving too slowly in improving roads and making other important infrastructure investments. After much public outcry, the government borrowed a $100 million loan which will fund the road works currently underway across the territory.

Still, the Opposition and some members of the public say more could be done if the government had more political will and if they weren’t focused on international travel and entertainment events.

  1. Time for them to go says:

We want the VIP out of government. They have shown us already that they do not have the competence to properly handle our affairs. Everything in this country is a mess and all you get is talk but no action whatsoever.

Maybe you could get a contract to be their consultant on this.
By the way the public have not had a chance to feedback on the KPMG reports in reference to an airport expansion so no decision on the airport can have been made yet. P487 said in meetings that whether or how to proceed has not been decided. I know in other places he says it is going to happen so it is hard to know what is going on. But that is the way poor leaders lead. Get to work cos. I am sure you will be worth every penny. Ha ha.
