The Taddy Bay Airport on Virgin Gorda is being closed indefinitely.

The BVI Airports Authority made the announcement on Thursday but gave no explanation.

“The Taddy Bay Airport, Virgin Gorda will be closed effective Sunday, April 22, 2018, until further notice. Persons scheduled to travel to Virgin Gorda by air are encouraged to contact their airline representative for alternate arrangements,” the Authority said.

“The BVI Airports Authority apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the closure of the Airport, and thanks the travelling public for its indulgence as it seeks to ensure safety is maintained at all times,” it added.

  1. Hmmm! says:

    Here we go again!

  2. WTF? says:

What a bunch of jokers! 2 days notice. They are taking this country down the drain. It’s like they are not even trying to cover up their incompetence anymore! Strupes!

    • My cents says:

This has nothing to do with Gov’t and politics. Blame the —- of BVIAA, his failure to — the airports over the years to the proper standard and to regulation. People pay top dollar to go into VG. Such a shame it has to be poorly attended by Airport Authority. Time for govt to intervene and shake up AA.

  3. Eyes wide shut says:

There has to be more to this:,
    Was it a regulation issue?
    Is it being sold?
It for the purpose for reinvestment that this is being done?
    But something isnt right..

  4. vg resident says:

Sure is going to hurt tourism. How come no explanation is being give. Shutting an airport is an extreme measure.

  5. Wow says:

..didn’t even know VG had an airport.

    • My cents says:

You should be ashamed of commenting, then again you must have never traveled before.

    • Me says:

Thats bcse U are a nincomm poop

How U tink all dem rich ppl does get here
This closing is a plot tk slow down progress / growth in VG
But we will rise again ????????

    • Stone cold says:

remember we was hit by 2 cat five hurricane a few months ago
Come on people..stop you all negativity. If the airport
Is badly damaged it is going to need time for reconstruction.

      • VG Resident says:

So only now they going close it after all the flights that already flying into VG every day. Where do you live? Can’t you be this niece?
Closing an airport for reconstruction is by far the craziest idea you could have come up with.

      • VG says:

Nothing to do with reconstruction. The Firetruck IS NOT WORKING and the airport cannot operate without it per ASSI regulation.

    • SP says:

      you must be a tolian

  6. Plugga says:

This is a shame.. This would now affect the tourism on the island. It would even affect those who are working there because they all would have to look for new jobs to help themselves and their families.

  7. VG Resident says:

I think that all the airlines that had bookings into VG for these coming days should file a lawsuit on the BVI Airport Authority. VG has had its share of neglect but this has been a big deal, over the years the incompetent —— of BVIAA has allowed similar closure. Gov’t should start changing faces and getting the right people to run the airports. This airport severs the wealthy few who prefers to bypass beef island, because of the stupid immigration officers and avoid the hassle.

  8. Anonymous says:

Last time we were there we landed on the beach!

    • beach warden says:

Why posting such a nonsense? Had you landed on the beach, you were not alive today. There is not even space for an emergency helicopter to land!

  9. Gordaguy2 says:

This is simply crazy – people have been working to get their places ready for tourists and now this – lets have more information

  10. How? says:

So wait? The airport is to be closed and this was discussed? when?

  11. Hmmmmm.... says:

Well at Speedys funeral the Rep. said he had saved it from being sold the first time, so maybe that now he (Speedy) is gone, they trying a thing. IDK.

    • SP says:

D—- O—– was the one who spearheaded the protest. Speedy provided the transportation to get people to Tortola. ONCE AGAIN ——- got his facts wrong. He got to go

  12. Trust me says:

What and my district rep.don’t know about such? This is totally out of wack 2 two days come guys.Whatever this spells VG PEOPLE ROLL UP OUR SLEEVES LETS FACE THESE @$/6=%% hooligans upright. We are not properly in the mix something is wrong.Remember all who give to recovery are not truthfully cropo say u will hear

  13. Hmmm says:

NDP GOT TO GO!! Vote them out

  14. WAR says:

This is not going to happen here today!!!!!

  15. erectile pills says:

    best erectile dysfunction pills online

  16. Travel Agent says:

It would have been a good idea to inform the airlines! After reading this, I booked a flight with Air Sunshine from San Juan to Virgin Gorda. The flight is leaving at 10:50 and the one way was confirmed at $225.00

  17. Laura says:

This would be a sad day if this does indeed hold merit but it would have helpful if the reason(s) for closure were disclosed to the general populace. Or we dealing with another piece of top secret information? In order to make strides forward for bettering the future of these islands there needs to be a better discourse of information sharing.

  18. Non Belonger says:

We don’t need these knuckleheads. When we went to the recovery meeting they kept saying ‘One BVI’. Everyone kept asking, ‘what about Virgin Gorda?’…’We are One BVI; we don’t talk about sister islands anymore, One BVI’…guess I know what that means now: One BVI = Tortola. This is just petty jealousy by those entitled crooks again. Sorry Virgin Gorda we are on our own…so let’s keep sticking together and fix Virgin Gorda together. Branson, Kelner, Miricle Grow guy; listen up. Sorry, but we need your help again. Let’s fix this and make this place better.

    • VG says:

Virgin Gordians have always been self sufficient long BEFORE Branson and all the rest. The difference is that we all work together here with or without government

  19. Really? says:

There should be 2 trucks if one is not available!!!!! What a state of affairs! Like what are we paying these people for…..

  20. Sunny says:

I would donate my time and connection to get the Fire truck fixed. Is it the engine block, the injection, transmission, drive train or a full ashtray? And there is no one in BVI who can fix it if the parts are available? Mmh?
    1) What is wrong with the truck?
    2) What parts are needed?
    3) Order the parts from Florida, I can have them within 24 hrs at the Airport in Ft. Lauderdale or at Crowly shipping.
    4) Fly them in / ship them in
    5) Install it- DONE!
Everyday an airport is not running cost MONEY in the tourist industry.
And if all Mechanics are busy in BVI, I have a Canadian ASE Master Mechanic who can fly in.

  21. Sunny says:

I would donate my time and connection to fix that issue.
BVI need tourists! Closing and airport because a non running fire truck is understandable for security reasons BUT why not fix the truck.
    All I need to know:
    1) What kind of truck is it?
    2) What is the problem, engine, injection, drivetrain, transmission, or…?
    3) What parts are needed?
    4) I can have the parts at a US airport within 24 hrs or ship via it Crowley.
    5) There should be a non busy mechanic in BVI or I have a Canadian ASE certified Master Mechanic.
    Here is a solution.
