Voting against exempting Willock didn’t take courage

Dr Wheatley

Voting against House Speaker, Julian Willock, in a recent motion before the House of Assembly (HOA) did not take courage, according to Deputy Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley.

The HOA recently passed a motion to establish a select committee that essentially seeks to examine whether Willock should pay legal fees incurred in an aborted court injunction, or whether the burden should be passed to taxpayers instead.

Two opposition members — Marlon Penn and Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull — along with a lone government member, Shereen Flax-Charles voted against the initiative. The Opposition praised Flax-Charles for the courage she displayed in breaking ranks and voting against her own party’s motion.

But during the debate, Dr Wheatley said: “One member spoke about courage. Voting against exempting the Speaker; that doesn’t take courage.”

Dr Wheatley argued instead that it took courage to stand with the Speaker in the face of vociferous Opposition from residents and colleagues in the HOA.

He told the HOA that the easy thing to do would be to say, ‘Speaker, you on your own’.

According to the Deputy Premier, things that actually take courage include standing up to the UK and the ongoing Commission of Inquiry (COI).

He noted that calls for a COI into the Boris Johnson-led UK government were rebuffed. He suggested it was unfair the UK government could defer a COI on itself while still insisting on one for the BVI.

The Deputy Premier said persons should see the bigger picture and focus on the real enemy of inequality.

The coi not investigating the people and your enemy is not our enemy. So Sar we not aiding with corruption we are on the side of transparency. And you got it wrong again. You saying that what Hon Flax did was not courageous we the people are in the majority. Much more courageous than you sowande. I say Hon Flax for the ninth.

  6. 8 says:

Dear Hon. Wheatley, 7ou can support him without supporting and promulgating the wrong that was done!!!

The Court gave its decision and a committee was established thereafter to determine what the Court has already decided; what sort of precedent is being set?

Further, you note that “inequality” is the “real enemy” and that may be so. However, there are more enemies. But, I am not certain whether you know who they are, what their objectives are and how they intend to fulfil them.

When the wise speaks it is for others to learn. Please listen, learn and do right!!!

    I have a different thought.

I think he has it backwards. He is projecting here. Voting as did did FOR House Speaker, Julian Willock, in a recent motion before the House of Assembly (HOA) did not take courage as he seems to think.

IMO, it showed weakness, lack of critical thinking and objectivity. Those who voted against the committee were the courageous ones, in particular the female member of his own party

No matter the facts, he would not have voted otherwise because it appears he does not have an independent mind.

He has been on this anti-colonial crusade for some time now and imo that has clouded your judgment. He and the speaker, and the Premeir are on the same page on that issue, so it comes as no surprise that he supports the speaker in his legal/financial mess.

His statement is nothing short of shallow and offensive and has nothing to do with being anti-colonial. Those courageous anti-colonial leaders in history would throw out their own party men who put their struggle for sovereignty and independence from European colonialism at risk. Warriors like Nkrumah must be shaking in their graves at his ludicrous posturing. Anti-colonialism does not equate with gross egoism and defense of one partyman’s brash incompetence and arrogance at the expense of your people’s integrity and your demonstration to them (not UK) that you are genuinely mature, soberminded, competent, trustworthy and courageous enough to break ranks with convenience and croneyism to see your people through to self-determination. He and the likes of him are giving anti-colonialism a bad name.

Natalio Wheatley, You said it didn’t take courage for Hon Flax to go against her government; she has more courage than any of you. You argued instead that it took courage to stand with the Speaker in the face of vociferous opposition from residents and colleagues in the HOA that didn’t take any courage because Andrew Fahie doesn’t care about how the people feel about anything and he sure as hell don’t care that he is breaking the law trying to protect the WIG MAN. According to the Deputy Premier, things that actually take courage include standing up to the UK and the ongoing Commission of Inquiry (COI). Why would we stand up against something that is a benefit for the people of the BVI? You are a waste of time you just need to shut up because every time you open your mouth it’s the same crap that comes out of it.
Just in case you don’t know the UK is an independent country and we are an OT of the UK.

Wheatley, get out of here with that foolishness.

Is this man for real? He must be eating stupid bush or somebody must be working obeah on him to make him lose whatever sense he had. What a useless f**e and a fr**d! He finds it fit to get up in public and spit out a string of anti-colonial stupidness, and pretend patriotism in order to deflect attention from the misd**ds and incompetence of himself and his colleagues. The people of the Ninth District should have known better than to replace Dr. Pickering with an uns**ble and do-nothing windbag like Natalio “Sowande Uhuru” Wheatley. Now the whole country is paying for this big mistake and to think that he is the Deputy Premier! How much worse can it get?

Wheatley has no courage or principles and if he did, he would distance himself from the likes of the steamed Speaker. Instead, he embraced the big l** of UK victimization that his leader is spreading.

The Speaker went to court pursuing his own folly, and since he was rebuked, he must bear the consequences. There is no lack of courage in allowing a public officer to face justice for his misdeeds. On the other hand, Hon. Wheatley has the unmitigated gall to accuse others of failing to give cover to a man who was ordered by the Court pay for his foolish actions. Now he wants to interfere with the judiciary with some bogus select committee? You think we will let you take us down that road Wheatley?

We don’t want to hear any more from you on this. Stay in your Ministry and for once, try to do some constructive work in the little time you have left and use your spare time to plan for your future outside of politics.

    • District Resident says:

Lol, Diego, shack, might as well we had left Doctor in there. Next election we going do better

  13. C'mon man says:

The easy thing to do Honourable Minister is to do exactly what you are doing run around yourselves in circles without really fessing up to what is actually happening. Your Government, having sent him on a mission on your behalf, must now pay, but courage and integrity would have dictated you first admit that he had the consent and the sanction of your administration to do what he did. It is that bit that in people craw; how dishonest and disrespectful to the people who elected you y’all are.

No wonder the people never gave you a chance. Put in your CV at the ministry of education because you will be fired on election day. Dammmmmm foo!
