Walwyn says he has an issue with Lorna Smith

Sixth District Representative, Myron Walwyn.

Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn has stated that he still has an issue with Deputy Premier Lorna Smith, who pulled a major political move earlier this year by siding with the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) to form a coalition government.

Speaking in the House of Assembly on July 13, Walwyn first congratulated Smith for spearheading a series of meetings with business owners across the territory when she first took office as Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade.

At the same time, the legislator tapped into the Virgin Islands vernacular to convey that he still has an issue with Smith, adding that she is aware of the problem he was speaking of.

“I want to congratulate the At-Large member (Lorna Smith) — Ah still vex with her. I ain’t talking to her. I’m still hot with her and she knows why I’m hot with her,” Walwyn said with a tone that drained some seriousness from his statement.

“But I want to congratulate her for what she has been doing,” he added. He didn’t state exactly why he was “still vexed” with Minister Smith.

It is unclear whether he was referring to Smith’s big move earlier this year when she aligned with the VIP and helped them to form the current government after the April 2023 election. Her move disappointed the members of the Opposition and many residents who said they had no idea the first-time legislator was capable of such a move.

Later on in the sitting, Smith responded to Walwyn’s comments when she rose to make her presentation in the House:

“I have to respond to my colleague from the Sixth [District],” Minister Smith said with a smile. “I am not vexed with you so you may as well start talking to me. Madam Speaker, I am delighted that I have the opportunity to serve the people of this territory in a way I promised to serve them and I have no intention of letting them down.”

Myron is one of the most honest persons we had in politics. This bogus case that will be exposed was set up to get him out of politics. Some of his own NDP colleagues along with Andrew Fahie were the masterminds going down to the governor to make this an issue to get him out of the leadership challenge. Myron will be just fine. Even in the midst of the charge the people still voted him in by a landslide. God is in the midst. You just stand still Myron.

the UK or the international community can never take the BVI serious. After voting a man who could end up in jail for stealing government funds over a wall to the House of Parliament is shameful.

Now he on here about he has issues with Lorna. The BVI remains lawless, how the hick would the UK remove the order in council?

It really didn’t matter who won last election that’s why a lot of people didn’t even bother vote. The opposition has one newcomer everybody else is the same old politicians who been in power before and had chance to make decisions for the territory before so why y’all feel like it would have been so different if Lorna didn’t do what she did and the opposition was the government?
