Walwyn’s Opposition: A year of alliances, tensions, and shifts
March 2026 marks one year since Myron Walwyn assumed the role of Opposition Leader — a tenure marked by high-profile parliamentary activity and shifting political alliances.
Over the past year, Walwyn’s leadership has featured frequent challenges in the House of Assembly, shifting alliances within the Opposition, and periods of internal disagreement. His rise to the position followed a reconfiguration of Opposition support that replaced fellow legislator Ronnie Skelton. Since then, his time in office has included a no-confidence motion, pointed exchanges with Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, and changes within the coalition that initially backed him.
While Walwyn’s approach has increased his visibility, it has also drawn mixed reactions. Supporters say his stance has strengthened scrutiny of the government, while some critics — including political observers and legislators — have questioned its tone and the impact of divisions within the Opposition.
Here’s a timeline of key developments during Walwyn’s first year as Opposition Leader:
January 2025 – Formation of “The Alliance”
Walwyn forms a political grouping with Melvin Turnbull and Stacy Mather, signalling a shift in Opposition dynamics and consolidating support within the bloc.
March 2025 – Leadership change
Walwyn, Turnbull and Mather jointly indicate their support for Walwyn to serve as Opposition Leader in correspondence to Governor Daniel Pruce. With majority backing among Opposition members, Walwyn assumes the role.
Mid-2025 – Assertive parliamentary approach
Walwyn adopts an assertive tone in the House of Assembly, frequently pressing the government on policy and governance matters. Views on his approach remain divided between supporters and critics.
July 2025 – No-confidence motion
Walwyn brings a motion of no confidence against the government. The motion is unsuccessful, highlighting differences in support across the House.
Late 2025 – Signs of division
Differences within the Opposition become more visible, with varying public positions and participation levels among members.
December 2025 – Alliance shifts
Mather joins the government, altering the composition of the Opposition and impacting the coalition that had supported Walwyn’s leadership.
Early 2026 – Ongoing internal discussions
Discussions about leadership and direction within the Opposition continue, though no changes are formalised.
March 2026 – Political realignment
As the next general election approaches, Walwyn is again aligned with the National Democratic Party (NDP), reflecting another shift in Opposition strategy.

One thing for sure he needs to get in his hard head and red eyes, he will never be premier
@a**–sura!! I hope your eyes stay white, you control who going be premier??
You will continue to be jealous of Myron wiggy. I have never seen someone so obsessed with another person in my life. Wiggy is obsessed with Myron to the point that I believe he need medical attention.
Promotion comes not from east, west, north or south. It comes from God. Play God and God will show you who is God.
You will never make it in the House like how Myron has. You cannot even get on a party ticket to run. Stay there your ugly, black, bull frog looking and wig wearing self. No one likes you. Do us a favour and disappear
Leave Cindy she is with Myron and her hair is real
He needs to understand that you don’t always have to be in charge to lead. As it is with D3, so it is with him.
Walwyn is my opinion is the most effective representative that we have had in a long time. What I see is political jealousy and envy coming from many corners all because of his heritage, his intelligence and the love that many voters have for him. Walwyn was born here Wheatley was not. Walwyn was born here Lorna was not and she was acting Premier and you heard not a word. Walwyn is born here Mark Vanterpool was not but do you hear the likes of Claude Cline pulling down Mark like he goes out of his way to pull down Walwyn? It’s a lot of jealousy and envy at play and not what is best for the people and the country.
From what I picked up it was the NDP that asked for Myron, Mitch and the alliance group to join back with them. District 2 and 6 are two fairly safe seats which the NDP would want to have.
Myron, Mitch and what group? The Alliance never got off the ground hence the rejoining with NDP, stop fooling yourself. Myron and Mitch easily win their districts because nobody of substance want to challenge them, that’s it. They are not leaders which is why nobody with any chance of winning was joining their team. Say what you want about Mather but he realized his misstep and chose the lesser of the two evils.
The NDP would have been dead on arrival without Myron with them.
Walwyn with NDP is a nightmare for the VIP. I swear Natalio ain’t sleep a wink last night after getting that news. LOL
This guy just obsessed with self
Much of this bickering appears to around 2 issues:
1. Who will be the leader, and
2. The current Oppositon Leaders heritage.
Listen up guys. You have got to get your blank togeher. Somebody got to lead and the others will have to follow.
There can only be one leader and NO entitlement to the leadership. Put your most capable person forward and work as a team if you wish to be succesfull contesting the next election.
A divided house cannot stand.
On the other hand, as a party come to a consenscus that this crazy notion that the Oppositon Leader being an “island man” is NOT a barrier to him becoming Premier.
Acknowldge the fact that he was born in the BVI and despite his parent’s heritage is no less qualified to be Premier of the country if that day came.
You cannot go into the next election as a divided group. The infighting between you have been too much, and is not a good look. It makes you guys look weak when you should be showing unity and strenght.
Again, get your blank together. The publics dissatisfaction with the current government is not going to be enough to get you in the drivers seat.
You are going to have to earn it, but you cannot do so with all the bickering you have displayed in the past.
You guys have changed parties and allegiances as often as one changes their underpants. Get yourseleves together or you will forwever be sitting in the Opoosition looking on from the sidelines.
Of all the members of the House of Assembly when I observe them, Myron is the best one to lead the BVI. I watch House of Assembly to hear him and then I change my radio after because to me he is only one that make sense in there. They just jealous the man. The BVI is an envious place.
Myron is the most se**-obs***ed self-poster – what a jacka**
What comes out deh mouth is back-a deh head.
One thing is for sure is any article with Myron in it, GBM will be blogging like crazy. When he is finished with her I hope she has a solid support system.
Needed to represent the 9th in the upcoming is not more of the status quo, but a political astute mind.
One that has the economic status of the island annd it local people and pensioners at the forefront. One that works for everyone and not just a select few.
A leader who honors promises made during campaigns and prioritizes the public’s welfare over their own financial interests.
This VIP government embarekd on a Personal enrichment campaignn from day one. It was their secret agenda and they have delivered to themselves all they had masterminded in their pre-elections deliberations and policy unndertakings.
The time has come for a government that serves the interests of all citizens, with particular attention to those requiring support, rather than catering only to individuals who regard public office as a means for personal gain.
Individuals who possess strong political insight and a genuine commitment to public service are encouraged to step up as leaders. Their efforts should aim to move the island and territory forward, fostering a sense of pride among all residents—particularly locals—and their nation.
This is so well said. One of the biggest disappointments is Natalio Sowande Wheatley. He was someone who claimed to identify with the people, he acted as Noel Lloyd and made so many promises that he has not kept. He “arrived” and kicked down the ladder! It is so sad to witness how he sold lies to his people in Long Look and turned his back on them, and also turned his back on the entire BVI just to uplift himself.
Good thing to see funny man got his bloggers out
HOW THE TRUTH HURTS. I APPROVED THESE MESSAGES 1000%.
Another fowl fight in Paradise.
