Watch God work through me, Premier tells lawmakers

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley. (GIS Photo)

Despite increasing complaints and criticisms from opposition members and critics of his government, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has insisted that the BVI’s economy is doing well and heading in the right direction.

“Watch me, in fact, the slogan right now is not ‘Watch me work, baby’. The slogan is ‘Watch God work through me’. Watch God work, baby,” the Premier said while referencing a previous statement he made in the House of Assembly.

Dr Wheatley said he is not one to paint a flowery picture of everything taking place for his political benefit or ignore the challenges that residents are facing.

“It’s a hard time in the BVI. But guess what? It’s a hard time in many places in the world,” the Premier argued. “Let’s not act like the BVI is the only place going through hard times and we’re painting this kind of flowery picture of other places.”

The Premier argued that while he appreciated the opposition’s role, they maximised the challenges and minimised the successes of his government and urged people listening to them to do so with a grain of salt.

He chided fellow lawmakers for not wanting to hear good news about developments in the financial services and tourism sectors and pointed to developments at Nanny Cay and the West End Ferry terminal project as further evidence of progress in the territory.

He also highlighted the much-anticipated Prospect Reef redevelopment project, where he promised a groundbreaking ceremony would soon be happening.

Premier Wheatley told lawmakers that the territory received almost 500,000 visitors in the first quarter of this year and described this as commendable.

“You go up and down some of the places that your opposition claims doing so much better than us and really, just take a look and see what the numbers are in comparison,” the Premier stated.

    • STOP MOCKING GOD!!! says:

He must have forgotten this after the former disgraced Premier’s arrest, now full speed ahead supporting secular activities and pushing one Music Fest after the next – STOP MOCKING GOD!!!!!!!

“Dr Wheatley, speaking at the Community Worship Centre, Church of God of Prophecy in Long Look, said the Virgin Islands has endured a lot of recent, beginning with the floods of August 2017, followed by the devasting Hurricane Irma and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said God has continually given the VI “another chance” but His mercy was taken for granted.

According to Premier Wheatley, the National Unity Government is also another chance given by God to do right.

“This morning we had an earthquake. I believe that’s a warning because, like we said before, God can take us off the face of the map, but his mercies never fail. We have to repent as a nation, we have to repent individually and that includes myself because, of course, I believe very firmly God has a plan for my life.”

Quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14, Dr Wheatley said the Virgin Islands has a chance to do right by God and that includes the National Unity Government, or else the nation could be in “deep “peril”.

“So, I’m here this morning and I’m repentant and I’m asking for forgiveness. Where I have gone along with things which are not right, I ask for forgiveness. Where I have seen and not done the right thing, I ask for forgiveness. Where I have encouraged division instead of unity, I ask for forgiveness. Where we have ignored the cries of the people, I ask for forgiveness. Where I have not conducted myself in a right way, I ask for forgiveness, and I know that God will be with me and he will forgive me and he will heal this land.”

Dr Wheatley also warned that God should not be mocked “because God is not pleased with that, so we have to worship him in spirit and in truth. Worship him with our whole heart because of course I believe he will deliver us from the snares of the enemy.”

Hon. Premier sounds good But just remember: Can’t pour old Wine in New Bottles. You need to first clean up your act. Then and only Then God will be able to work through You. You really need to seek God’s Face as others are doing to bring back Glory days for our territory. There are more for you Than against But understand that Leadership is an ART not an ACT. Show Up, Stand Up and Lead and Stop playing like a Silly Clown. Show the World what you are really made of because right now, You look and act like a Child in a Man’s Body. Come on Hon. Premier, Academically, we know that you are capable But your actions are saying otherwise. Just Remember, God is Not Mocked. See what happened to your Predecessor? Let go and Let God do a Work in You and Stop listening to some of your very Colleagues who are not in Good Standing. Be able to Think for yourself and Stop let others Think for you. Be Warned.

  12. I respect his religious belief; however, says:

I hate when politicians mix their religious beliefs with their politics.

IMO, politicians should keep their religious faith separate. Such beliefs should never be used to shape public policy or govern.

Now, the last time one of these politicians talked this way and touted their religious credentials, they found themselves locked up in a jail house in Miami. Just saying.

If I was a politicians in this moment, after all that mess that went down with Head Coach, I’ll would keep my religious beliefs to myself rather than reference it publicly to avoid people looking at me to see if I have an ungodly past.

The minute I open my mouth and start speaking this way, people would automatically start comparing me to Head Coach.

Don’t mess with God. Head Coach blanked around, and he found out. The world witnessed how God work through him. We all watched God work, baby.

Sadly, the premier is not the only leader in the Caribbean who claims a special relationship with God.

White missionaries used the same device to pacify black slaves. And the indoctrination works as well now as it did then. The only difference being; this time around the missionaries are black, and the slaves remain black.

What good news about developments in the financial services and tourism sectors? What the Premier does not understand is that people are leaving the financial sector in droves and moving to Cayman Islands. What he also fails to acknowledge is that the first impression of tourist visiting the BVI (be it cruise ship, yacht charter, or long stay) is dreadful and dangerous roads, abandoned vehicles and boats, the smell of sewerage, and a capital full of empty building. Few if any will return for a second visit. The Premier needs to invest in the infrastructure and not waste money on worthless trips abroad and music festivals.

We serve an awesome, righteous, merciful and long suffering God . He loves everyone of us . As a leader of a Christian society you have to be careful of what you says, and the things you
    do
Putting a festival that glorifies darkness more than light over the maintenance of the hospital and the education of his people is not Christlike decision
Evading the cries of your poor people in Long Look is not Christ like
    Look
At the Godly men of old and see those who
    Were successful
And how they rule their nation . You are far from the mark . Develop your own relationship with God and he will
Guide you . Let the holy spirit into your mind then let Him lead you .
