Water woes force gov’t office closures

The government announced the closure of several of its offices yesterday due to what it described as water disruptions.

The Premier’s Office, the Immigration Department and the Town & Country Planning Department were all closed by noon yesterday after the government said it experienced water disruptions in the Road Town area.

The government did not offer any additional details about what may have caused the disruptions, however, the notices said that normal service is expected to resume today, June 23.

The announcement comes days after the Water & Sewerage Department (WSD) issued several notices announcing nightly water disruptions across the territory.

Residents have been experiencing nightly disruptions between the hours of 9 pm to 5 am.

The disruptions are expected to continue until tomorrow, June 24 to keep the water levels of various tanks at optimal levels ahead of Tropical Storm Bret, the WSD stated.

Residents in affected areas were urged to fill up containers with water before the shut-off time to ensure they have adequate water to use during the interruption period.

The immigration department only need water to flush toilets and wash hands. so the building does not have a cistern to do this?? The landlord should be responsible for this.

  2. Reality Check says:

$250,000 would go along ways to helping this latest crisis, as would whatever the Premier is wasting flapping his gums at a useless OECS meeting.
He and rest of his government need to get their butts firming in their ministries expending all of their energy on fixing the infrastructure and following through on the promise made to the UK to implement the COI recommendations before they implement the Order In Council!!
GET TO WORK FIXING THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND FULFILLING YOUR PROMISES!

So the Government allow W&S to shut-off the water so that the cruise ship can be replenished, only for Government to then send all of their staff home…. Brilliant… good job the private sector does not take this approach to business….

  9. @ @ HMM says:

OK MR WISE ? , A CISTERN DON’T HAVE TO BE UNDER THE BUILDING , A TANK CAN BE BUILT AND WATER STORED THERE FOR CASES LIKE THESE AND BE PUMPED IN FOR TEMPORARY NEED LIKE WHEN STREET WATER IS SHUT OFF FOR WHATEVER REASON / BEFORE W/ CAY WAS DEVELOPED ALL OVER THERE WAS WATER , SO IT WON’T NEED A ROCKET SCIENTISTS TO DESIGN AND BUILD A TANK , DUH

  11. @@hmm says:

just like how the rest of the buildings have there idio.

  12. well says:

one should have been build when the building was going up. is there a problem building a cistern at Wickham cay???? if an entire 3 or 4 story can be built on the land there why building a cistern is a problem?????

  13. ummm says:

so if you were ever inside those building do you realize it have a floor below the first one called the basement. I know eureka have one where you have to go to do scans and cct have one too I’m not sure if those other building have a ground floor, if they do then a cistern there would not have been a problem underground. if the first mention businesses building have a basement they had to dug to build it so same could have been done to build a cistern.

  14. Think Smarter says:

IM convinced that water & sewerage will continue to get worst by the hour. Them people really clueless. They need new management everybody knows this yet more of the same.

  15. Lo lo says:

Water is a human right and so is clean air.
We are forced to purchase water for necessities and making the water truck owners rich on the backs of human suffering willfully imposed by the VI duly elected. No one should be compelled to build a cistern and pray for rain to conduct sanitary and personal essentials. A cistern is an expense that many cannot afford repair and clean. $250,000 could build and assist in upkeeping a few cisterns territory wide.
Clean air and water are human rights for which the Government is responsible. The VI Gov,Black indlow
ividuals has for years ignored and trampled on the human rights of its people,it’s own Black people. The depth of this depravity is no comparison to the blah blah about slavery,

  16. @think smarter says:

Did you ask the people up there what the issues are as opposed to typing what first goes to your brain? Nothing can’t fix without money. First question should be is the department sufficiently funded to address these issues? If so where is the funds situated? Why isn’t it bring it used? Where is it being used? When is the department going to be properly funded. Ask questions before you make an absolute final statement. You are closed minded either willfully or for real??
