‘We never see them’ – Police criticised for not patrolling in EE

The East End Police Station on Tortola.

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force have once again been criticised for not being visible in the community, particularly in the East End area where several murders and other serious crimes have taken place over the past year.

Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn said he was concerned by the closure of the East End Police Station but he explained that he and other persons protested and the station is now manned 24/7.

When questioned by hosts of the Talking Points show about the reasons for the closure of the station, Penn stated: “The Commissioner expressed that he believes that the best use of his manpower is to be patrolling.”

But co-hosts Elvin Grant and Violet Gaul said the officers are never seen around the community.

Police Commissioner Mark Collins announced that there would be more patrols following two recent incidents where a prison van was ambushed and an intruder entered the Elmore Stoutt High School and created a disturbance.

Penn argued, however, that even though there is a need for police patrols, police stations also need to be manned for persons who turn up to file complaints or make a report.

“Absolutely, if you have an incident and you run into the station, you can’t get in because it’s locked. What do you do?” Grant asked.

The District Representative expressed that it was unfortunate that there is a stigma attached to the East End community as a result of the murders – one of which occurred in front of his office – and the other violent crime that has happened there.

Commenting on calls for the Commissioner to resign, Penn said there is some cause for concern and he called for an internal review process to happen. This is particularly in light of a recent scandal where Collins denied he was involved in a cover-up of an internal matter involving two former police officers.

This is a historic problem in the BVI. You can go months at a time without seeing a single officer on the street anywhere.

That is because historically, culturally and morally. BvIslanders are without crime for years in and out. There was no need for the expected and degraded presence of police keeping the melanated murderous and thieving natives closely and intrusive OKunder watch. Policemen appeared when and if called and marched in parades for show,Hovering was not the thing.
Unfortunately and disgustingly this has changed to reflect the new and dominant imported cultures, lookalikes physically but culturally and historically are raised and nurtured in crime its expectations and its environments. Police presence is constant and expected nearby comfort of fears and guess what…it makes no difference in their crime rate of thousands lost lives yearly.
Sans their regretful presence and or decreased, in these VIand with the other hundreds of diverse cultures remaining there would be bliss and no sightings of policemen and with no complaints The expense and the occupational presence of foreign overseers of behavioral containment of the native Negros as expected mostly by the negros themselves
Behavioural conditioning is a thing for the negros even more so in this the age of Black Lives Matter because Black lives,in fact and jn obvious truth, Matters least to Blacks.

Something these ministers fail to say is that no local person wants to join because of the low payment for such a dangerous job. Too the police force does not have staff. The resources are poor and they still housing in a building built since 1849. Also to many people are anti police in bvi. Starting with the ministers. Irma, covid only the police were in the front line and still when it comes to their increment is a problem to pay them. I also understand that the human resources there are anti police as well. The UK needs to just take over the country. The ministers don’t have the best interest at hands for this country.

Poor leadership by the Commissioner, he seems divisive. He also alienated himself from the community when he tried to tell grown people that things that were true are actually not true – and vice versa. As if he thinks his mind games will work here.

The UK need to keep changing them until we get one that can make a positive difference.

@Yashua, you are right. I understand their pay is extreemly poor. Is this deliberate? I overheard people say that no one care to review their pay because majority of them are not locals. Even at that are we not punishing the locals among them?. Hire a monkey and pay pennies. Please increase the pay of these police officers otherwise you will loose them to the Islands. Just check and compare their pay with St Thomas. How equiped are? For example, do they have computers and printers to do their jobs? Is the department understaffed, making officers to work for long hours which could undermine their efficiency? What about the issue of mold that has persisted for over a decade in the old building?. If took the past commissioner overrulling us to ensure the Department has a bus. It shouldnt be so.

The police force was more structured and organized today, it looks adhoc. You use to saw the police cars on the beat at leasr three to four times in the night driving up through parham town that was on b the earlies
Of course crime was not rampant in East End. People looked out for each other.
Today the population has grown the officers are just a handful of expatriates. The local young people do not have any interest of going in the force.
The police in East End are scared for their own safety . Facing guns with baton
    I do not blame them

    Look
At the last shoot out by the East Ens … the guards had batons to defend themselves what nonsense is this
We bury our head in the sand.
