We’re unbothered about ‘Gov’t Official 1’, willing to help US — Dr Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has signalled the government’s willingness to cooperate with United States (US) officials if assistance is required in further investigations of alleged co-conspirators of former Premier, Andrew Fahie.

According to Premier Wheatley, while what was read in Fahie’s arrest affidavit was both shocking and concerning, he has all confidence that measures are being taken to investigate and to address any type of criminal activity taking place in the Virgin Islands.

“I’m confident that our law-enforcement agencies have certainly been apprised of the particular situation, confident that they will be able to advise us in the national security council of any developments. No, I’m not concerned at all,” Premier Wheatley said.

Dr Wheatley was at the time responding to questions at a press briefing late last week where he was asked whether he was worried about an unnamed government official who was mentioned in former Premier Fahie’s charging affidavit.

In the affidavit, the person mentioned as ‘Government Official 1’ was described as a high-ranking, corrupt government operative who has ‘many employers’, insinuating that the person is controlled by drug dealers and facilitates the passage of illicit drugs through the BVI.

But Premier Wheatley, while arguing that the BVI is a safe destination and the territory’s leaders want to keep it that way, said law enforcement officials in the BVI have a strong history of working with officials in the United States.

“We want all forms of corruption, we want all forms of criminal activity to be rooted out of our society. We don’t want drugs here in the Virgin Islands, we don’t want guns being smuggled, we don’t want human trafficking in here and we have to cooperate with our law-enforcement agencies and law-enforcement agencies in the United States or any other place in the neighbouring islands here to see how we can root out criminal activity from our societies,” Premier Wheatley said.

In the meantime, Dr Wheatley said he has had no communication with the now-disgraced former Premier Fahie either directly or indirectly since his arrest.

And so he should throw any corrupt persons under the bus. Enforce at all levels to root out the problem. The way forward for the BVI has overnight, demanded that a change in the way we once lived. We must now live with integrity, upholding moral standards. Secrecy, favoratism, bribes at all levels is a thing of the past. It will be a hard time for many BVIslanders.

that statement makes sense right now, is that belief system that have many in trouble right now, not throwing people under the bus. If persons don’t want to be under a bust they would play it safe and stay on the bus. who wants to go under when placed there shouldn’t puff!

Wheatley is useless. Thank goodness the governor initiated a criminal investigation of the Customs Dept. as recommended in the CoI report.

We need Scotland Yard to assist us. The foxes are in the hen house according to testimony in the criminal complaint. We can’t rely on our police as some of them are in collusion with Hezbollah according to the complaint/

Did US law enforcement work with BVI law enforcement when setting up fake meetings in Tortola and arrests in Miami? Or with UK? CoP or Governor must tell us the truth…. don’t count on it though.

That Governor giving them just enough rope to watch them hang themselves again. Smdh, now anyone with a modicum of common sense would have said to any employee because of circumstances and current accusations brought to our attention we are asking you to go on temporary leave with pay pending investigation. They would further say this is in no way an indication of guilt or innocence, but rather a necessary action to ensure the integrity and confidence in the system of government. Not our band of united morons……..smdh … they gonna say they unbothered…good grief, lord send help……..

It has occured to me, Are these are some of the same government officials if they had their way, had the legalisation of medical marijuana and casino gambling as priorities in an economic agenda for these Islands and apparently didn’t have any problem with that ??

  18. OldFool says:

“No, I’m not concerned at all, Premier Wheatley said.” Reactive much. True leadership would be launching an investigation into who this person is and get them out the system. Why wait until he/she is arrested by another country’s security agency, bringing international shame on the BVI once again. Allowing the little things to grow is the reason the country is at the crossroad it’s at.
