Wheatley asks for second term to continue D9’s development

Minister Vincent Wheatley

With the four-year term for the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) administration fast approaching its conclusion, Ninth District Representative Vincent Wheatley has urged his constituents to give him another term in office to continue the development of the district.

Speaking at the opening of the Captain Owen G. Harrigan Visitor Centre last week, Wheatley said the vision for the area is to develop it into something special.

“The time is far spent in our four-year term. So, if you send me back in a second term, I will make sure we push forward with haste with that sort of development. So, this here (the visitors’ centre) does not remain dormant,” the Ninth District Representative stated.

He said he is committed to continuing the development of Gun Creek Harbour to ensure there is a continuation of progress in the area and the port does not sit dormant for extended periods of time.

Wheatley further said the government must move forward to ensure that once the area is developed, it develops with the people and for the people.

The Ninth District Representative said this would result in them living out their true potential in the area.

“We had some major setbacks — the hurricane, the pandemic, the Commission of Inquiry and war, but the vision for this place cannot change. I have seen many plans for this area. First, let us understand that Gun Creek Harbour Development cannot just be this area here. It is too small for the vision and the potential for the people of North Sound,” Wheatley said.

“This harbour must be expanded out of here. It must expand out. Once we finish our great vision, the people from the area, once they look down and see the great harbour that Mr O’Neal did, they are going to see themselves. They are going to see their boats, their businesses. They are going to see their hotels in this development here. That is the vision we must take forward,” he continued.

He added: “We could see more than bumblebees and pelicans flying in the air again. At some point in time, I am so pleased that these buildings here are not only restored but transformed. You all have the intention to paint murals on these walls of those seafaring persons. This is a seafaring community, and we have a harbour full of potential. Let us go make that happen; all of us together making that harbour what it can really be.”

  2. No More Development says:

No more outsiders developing the North Sound please. Does any of the big money in the area go to BVI people??
ONB – no money in the BVI – One local in a grease the wheels position, all the rest are fodder for the machine.
Mosquito – no money in the BVI, no locals in top management
Necker – no money in the BVI, no locals in top management
Saba Rock – no money in the BVI, no locals in management
BEYC – no money in the BVI, no locals in management
The Sandbox – Money and managed in the BVI!
Leverick Bay – no money in the BVI, Local in Management.
North Sound Bistro not sure about money, almost a local in management.

Just stop the place being destroyed so BVI people get crap-paying jobs and lose their country to concrete.

No More Development,,,while agree its time to slow it down we must agree that everyone of the businesses above have created jobs. I have been to all of these places in the last few months and I have to say everyone was happy to be working and it was clear they were happy to see tourists spending and tipping! I have to say that all of the places in the BVI, VG is a gem and the government’s vision of the island is wonderful….have you seen Roadton and surrounding area. No Vison.

No more term for NDP either. Let us see some people who do not care for props. Those who did their 12 years already can remove themselves. You are not the only smart people in the place but what a disappointment in the ‘green’ team. No second chances either. You are all forgiven and can remove yourselves from our offices. Was so shocked when I heard how the most vote getter asked people if they know who she is. Child please go and take several seats. The voters employed you and we will send you back to get a piece of humble pie. We are sick and tired of this party system messing up the country now man. No more parties.

Dr, Martin Luther King once said, “I say to you today my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustration of the moment, I still have a dream.” Actually we know the end of that, MLK lived and died a good man, trust worthy indeed. I agree we have had a most difficult couple of years, but we cannot rely on your math nor your performance. our money is being abused as obvious in the COI, millions of $$$$$$$$$$$$ to pay lawyers for an exercise in futility. Nobody disciplined, fined nor jailed! List one thing that you have done or tabled, that brightens the future of kindergartners to college students.what are the new realistic job opportunities for our students? VG needs a trade school, bring high skill manufacturing to the 9th District and get serious about agriculture. Seek out Israel and Ukraine to lead agriculture, and do not frustrate expert brought to assist us building our economy.

Those high end properties looks very nice and they create many jobs but they do create high end garbage. Yes, lots of high end garbage, which ends up at the dump site. We complain about the burning and the flies but that is the price we have to pay for high end living.

Average the amount of expats voters and your sarcastic behavior towards them to determine a second term. And please let the bvi know your plans for them. We are listening……

    • @ Very concerned says:

I have nothing against expats and I do agree that the current policies needs to be address. However, please explain how expats can vote, as you have stated and how they could determine his second term?

In case you are unaware voting in the BVI is a constitutional right for BVIslanders/Belongers ONLY.

In any event, we do plan to vote him out.

You were the most divisive and anti expat minister of labour and immigration. Your hatred for expats came out in policies particularly during the pandemic. You were cruel and mean to those people. The Labour Department is a complete mess. What do you want another term to do? To drive around in the black sports car that you bought with tax payers money?

The young people who can vote and how their parents and relative had to suffer bcaise of tha nhi skeem that was put in place and quickly removed bcause someone with sense maybe said its inhumane to have the employees leaving the country bcause the employer not paying nhi. But yet money was comi g out of their pay. They did nothing to fix that priblem. Coi hurryup put better recommendations.
