Wheatley explains how he maintains transparency

Ninth District Representative Vincent Wheatley

Representative for the Ninth District Vincent Wheatley has stated that he tries to maintain transparency by publishing records of public funds he spends as an elected leader yearly.

Wheatley said he publishes these records on his website so persons can see how he uses the funds under his purview.

“Keeping records is very important, particularly when it comes to the people’s money,” Wheatley said recently in the House of Assembly while debating the damning Auditor General report on the COVID-19 Assistance Grants, which shows that millions of dollars were mismanaged by elected leaders.

“Integrity matters. That’s why I always make it a point to publish every penny at the end of the year on my website. If you want to see names, you have to come to my office to see who got what. I have the records but I would never publish that (names) because that’s nobody’s business. What people need to know is that I account for every money given to me,” Wheatley stated.

The recently released report by the Auditor General sparked much debate from residents, many of whom stated that they were always aware that the funds disbursed in the pandemic were utterly mismanaged.

However, elected leaders have stated that the report paints an incorrect picture of their intentions as the analyses given by the Auditor General’s Office force people to believe that elected leaders didn’t follow the established guidelines that governed the funds.

According to Wheatley, the purpose of audits is to leave systems stronger and more efficient rather than making people “look bad.”

He said he isn’t sure that the AG’s report on the COVID Grants fulfils that purpose but added that elected leaders must attempt to clarify their allocations.

“Members will have to clarify where they fit in this report. But I think we all – in good faith – tried our best to use the money given for the purpose intended,” Wheatley stated.

  8. Truth says:

Assist me in grasping this, and I am entirely aware that our audience here primarily consists of expatriates, thus bearing certain ingrained biases. A Commission of Inquiry (COI) emerged with the intention of laying bare extensive corruption. Despite no charges against Hon V. Wheatley, we persist in asserting allegations, almost to the point of being defamatory and libelous. I am confident that these very individuals, if queried about Trump—whose recorded voice beseeches an Attorney General to manipulate votes—would staunchly champion his cause. Your credibility would be greatly enhanced through reliance on concrete facts rather than mere hearsay.
