Why Fraser refused to join Q&A session in HOA

Fraser

Third District Representative Julian Fraser yesterday refused to participate in the question-and-answer period in the House of Assembly.

The question and answer session held yesterday was scheduled to take place on October 31 last year. But the government pushed back the session in an effort to get certain items passed, a move which triggered the Opposition members to walk out of the House in protest.

Yesterday, while the controversial question-and-answer segment was finally underway, Fraser made it clear that his participation would be a mockery of the walk-out that Opposition members staged on October 31, 2023.

“If we continue to ask these questions, it will be as if October 31st never happened. Personally, to participate in this process is a mockery of what we stood for. We stood for the institutional building of this [House],” Fraser explained. “We have an order paper and we would like to see that order followed and not the government – at will – constantly shifting the questions to the back of the order paper.”

Fraser continued: “For that reason, I find it repugnant for me to participate and I will not be asking my questions today.”

In response to Fraser’s position, House Speaker Corine George-Masicotte stated, “Noted, Honorable.”

The walk-out staged by the Opposition drew the attention of several sections of the community, as many residents expressed that the move was unnecessary and immature of the Opposition side.

Others commended the lawmakers, saying it shows they will not accept mediocrity from the government.

At the same time, Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley scoffed at the Opposition members, saying they walked out in a bid to undermine his government. He said reordering the House of Assembly order paper was nothing new and was done by previous administrations without any conflict. He also accused the Opposition members of lusting after the coveted seat of Premier, saying it was the driving force behind their actions to unseat him.

Him not asking questions could be for a myriad of reasons. Maybe he wasn’t happy with the part in his Afro this week. It should have been more to the left he thought. And that thought just wouldn’t go away
