The woman injured during a shooting incident at Parquita Bay Sunday night (April 18) is in critical condition.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police (RVIPF) said the woman — who’s identity has not been officially made public — was the victim of an armed robbery.

The incident reportedly happened at her residence.

“Initial reports indicate that a local businesswoman arrived home at Paraquita Bay around 7:30 pm with her day’s proceeds. Upon exiting her vehicle, she heard the voice of male demanding money. The mother of the businesswoman, who was at home at the time, heard a noise outside and attempted to exit the house and was shot,” the RVIPF reported.

She is now being treated at hospital. It is not clear where she sustained the gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, no one else was injured during the incident but the “assailant or assailants” made off with a bag containing an unspecified sum of money.

The police are now appealing to anyone who may have information into the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators to contact the Major Crime Team at 284-368- 5682 OR the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence,” the RVIPF has assured.

CAPS IN THIS INSTANCE IS INTENSIONALY SCREAMING FOR HELP.
Please start by cleaning up the communities where those suspected criminals congregate such as the intersection in the Purcell area near to the One Mart.
Please we need or community back. This community has raised some well respected individuals. We question what is going on now. It is so sad. We don’t seem to have any representation.
Remember the what the old Sunday Morning Well was like and it was cleaned up? Please we are pleading. Do something for that area on Purcell, if nothing else.

Yes. Why the inaction? This place is so out of control and sickening. Decent people deserve to live and work in a safe community. We elect politicians to do what is best for the society and they need to step up with some sold policy not just encouraging us to pray. There should be consequences for criminal behavior.

    • Hm says:

Curious, when the scooters are banned and people who resort to vehicles to commit their crime,, will you be begging that cars be banned too ?

When is the government going to put some tough measures in place to get guns off the street! And why in goodness name are the cops not out patrolling in their cars and driving through neighbourhoods and doing random traffic stops and searches to hopefully deter these criminals!! How much of a coward are you (criminals) that you would think to rob a woman and then shoot her mother!!! How would you feel if your mother got shot!! Or were you raised by wild goats!!!!

The poor lady. All of our hearts go out to her.

We need zero tolerance of crime in our country. The perpetrators are going to be people who got away with stuff all their lives. Minor crimes turn to major crimes. They ignore the law and laugh at it. They take a few drugs and nothing happens and next they are dealing in cocaine. They steal some money and nothing is done and next they are robbing at gunpoint. They ride around on illegal bikes and no one does anything and next they

The place is out of control.

The governments, local and UK , do nothing.

A disgrace that leads to tragedy after tragedy.

I’m sorry to say this, but the BVI will no longer be a peaceful place. What is disturbing is that the government have just been sitting back and doing NOTHING. How many people have complained about the havoc the scooter riders are causing and yet the Government kept turning a blind eye. And the age of the victims of these DEMONS seem meaningless to the government…cause if you’re 8yrs old, 18yrs old or 80yrs old and you’re gunned down in the BVI, the authorities don’t care.

I agree with you! The Premier can be out fearmongering about COVID all day long but we have had 5 murders and many robberies and no address from our leader. He was on the air last Friday talking pure nonsense and here we are on the brink of a crime outbreak and NOTHING from our Premier!

I’ve yet to hear how the hell they’re going to address crime and violence and where can I view his condolences to the families and businesses?

Utter Rubbish from the Government and Opposition.

  7. love BVI says:

Forget shouting angrily at the police and GOV, its the people of the BVI who need to change if this is going to stop. The police can only solve crime and stop crime based on information information from the public. ok so you could say the people dont trust the police but several years ago there was a double shooting on station road, British police were brought in so no excuse note to trust them and guess what NOBODY NOBODY would talk to then period. this needs to be a culture change

Condolences to the family. When the born here feels entitlement against police actions and the suspect from locals because of the down island police mentality the moral of the force is weakened. Whether it be the police, the prison or the hospital these professionals have to walk on egg shells because the locals can call the politicians, the politicians just put through a call to your superior and whatever action you took is deemed inappropriate.

We don’t want to face the truth. Politicians from both parties in an effort of goodwill and to keep the votes will appease wrong doing.

Case in point, a prisoner some while back had to attend court. He told the prison officer he not going. The officer insist he have to go. The officer left him to attend to other duties, about ten minutes after the prison received a call, will not say from who informing the supervisor that the prisoner should be excused.

When the police are allowed to do their jobs to the from here and not from here you will see results. Until then the police the majority of them will dress in their uniforms. Fall in for duty, collect their salaries and that’s it.

What certain people who wants to talk honestly should ask the politicians to take their knees of the necks of the police officers, prison officers and the nurses. Yes I am Joshua and I said it.

People whose minor crimes are ignored , riding illegal bikes, taking drugs, skipping school, stealing a little pocket money, soon graduate to major crime ; drug running, armed robberies, casual murder.

We need a policy of zero tolerance. Every crime should be prosecuted, no crime should be ignored. The lesson that you cannot take the law into your own hands without serious consequences should be taught, and taught young.

This is the policy that cleaned up crime ridden New York and other places.

    We need positive action now.

  11. Secret Bear says:

Bear with me for a second. Now, poverty alone doesn’t lead someone to rob and murder people, but let’s say this unknown perpetrator had violent tendencies but was able to hold a steady job in the meantime, pre-Covid. And let’s say hypothetically, the perpetrator of this robbery was someone who was put out of work after lockdowns and border closures ground the economy to a screeching halt and he couldn’t find a job, leaving robbery his last resort. And let’s say he didn’t intend to kill anyone but we all know people panic in such situations. And let’s say an innocent woman is dead who would still be alive if it weren’t for that chain of events starting with lockdown, which was billed to us as a “small sacrifice” to make to supposedly “save lives.” Let’s even say, for the sake of being fair, that the lockdowns did temporary save a few lives of very old, vulnerable people who were very likely near death anyway. (Even though we can’t actually prove this and probably never will).

I ask the premier and the other powers that be: is Catherine Pickering’s life worth less because she was shot to death instead of dying of Covid?

    LOCKDOWNS KILL.
