Youngster fined $5K for burglarizing animal shelter

The Magistrate’s Court building in John’s Hole Tortola.

Keimanie Christopher has been slapped with $5,000 in fines for burglarizing the local animal shelter where he once worked.

He was fined after pleading guilty to three counts of burglary, criminal damage and using threatening language.

Christopher was fined $2,000 for the first count of burglary. In default of not paying, he will spend four months at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsam Ghut.

He was also ordered to pay $375 in compensation to the shelter owners for that offence.

Christopher was further fined $3,000 for his second burglary of the Humane Society. In default of not paying, he will spend six months behind bars.

He was ordered to pay another $342 in compensation to the shelter.

For the third burglary — this time to another establishment — the convicted burglar was placed on probation for two years and was ordered to undergo therapy.

If he is found in breach of the order, he will pay a $2,000 fine or in default, spend four months at the adult penitentiary.

The offender was then fined $250 for using threatening language. All fines are to be paid by March 31 2020.

During Christopher’s sentencing hearing on Monday, it was said that he had burglarized the shelter twice because he had an issue with the staff “putting animals to sleep”.

He is said to have used threatening language to the shelter’s manager.

So an obvious career criminal for multiple burglaries and all he gets is a fine. Perhaps a little time behind bars would deter him in the future. I guess the burglary charge is equal to drug dealing of cicaine as the fines were the same. The BVI is one big joke. Keep the secret!!
