Youth charged for a second prison wounding

Shakoy Lavacia, 22, is fast developing a lengthy rap sheet since he was locked up at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Police, on Saturday, charged him in relation to a second serious case of wounding that happened within the past few months at the correctional facility.

The youngster, who lived at Mount Healthy on Tortola, was sentenced last July to five years imprisonment for possession of an illegal firearm.

Since being sentenced, he, in May this year, allegedly attempted to murder Kenyatta Boynes, who is serving time in prison for the murder of Paul Prentice.

Three months after being charged in relation to that attempted murder of Boynes, the young inmate has been slapped with a second serious charge arising from a second incident at the prison.

In that second prison incident, the youngster allegedly wounded another inmate – Santo Yamaico Hernandez, who is a Dominican Republic citizen accused of murdering British Virgin Islands native Alston Penn.

“Police arrested and charged Shakoy Lavacia, an inmate of Her Majesty’s Prison, for inflicting grievous bodily harm to another inmate at the prison,” Police Information Officer Drayton told BVI News Online today, August 28.

The young convict, Lavacia, first appeared in BVI News Online’s court reporting in 2015 when he was sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to burglary and criminal damage. He had burglarized Althea Scatliffe Primary School.
