15-yr-old charged with theft of scooter

BVI News understands that a 15-year-old boy from the Greenland community was recently slapped with a charge of theft, after it was determined that he was the one who stole a scooter that was reported missing in May.

Reports are that the owner left the scooter on his property while he went out to run errands. Upon his return, he realized the scooter was missing and he made a report to the police.

It is understood that the teen was caught just days ago after investigations led the police to review CCTV footage from an establishment next to the victim’s home. Highly placed sources say others were seen on camera, but it is unclear whether they are also being pursued by the police.

Our news centre was told that the scooter has been identified but it is unclear whether it has been handed over to the owner.

In the meantime, BVI News was told that the young man has been offered bail at an undisclosed sum and is scheduled to appear in court in October to answer to the charge of theft.
