$4 billion to rebuild the BVI – Branson estimates

Richard Branson is estimating that it will cost the British Virgin Islands government around four billion dollars to rebuild the territory after the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma.

Branson quoted the figure in an interview with CNN where he lamented the impacts of climate change and shared ideas.

“The cost of rebuilding just the British Virgin Islands will be three or four billion dollars,” he said.

“…If all that money could be invested in clean energy, in powering the world by the sun and by the wind, where we won’t have to suffer these awful events in the future, how much better than having to patch up people’s houses after they’ve been destroyed?”

The business tycoon who rode out the hurricane in his wine cellar on Necker Island expressed the view that the catastrophic hurricanes are just the beginning of future troubles because of climate change.

“I think this is the start of things to come.”

“Climate change is real. Ninety-nine percent of scientists know it’s real. The whole world knows it’s real except for maybe one person in the White House,” Branson said.
