A Rotary ride for the new year!

Aneil Caine as the winner of a 2024 Changan Uni-K from the Rotary Club of Central Tortola’s annual Christmas raffle.

The Rotary Club of Central Tortola recently announced Aneil Caine as the winner of its annual car raffle, held in December 2024. Caine is now the proud owner of the coveted 2024 Changan Uni-K.

The raffle, which began in August 2024, featured four early bird drawings of $1,000 leading up to the grand prize. Azil Nibbs won the first early bird drawing on October 25, followed by Victor Hodge on November 15. Inaaya Surpani secured the third drawing on November 29, while Myanna Prevost won the final $1,000 prize on December 13, just before the grand raffle.

Shan Mohammed, a past president of the Rotary Club of Central Tortola and project lead for the raffle, described the 2024 event as their most successful to date, narrowly surpassing the previous year’s achievements. Mohammed also revealed plans to expand the next raffle by offering two cars as grand prizes along with additional rewards.

Mohammed, who is also the director for Tortola Auto Group (TAG), detailed the company’s support for the event. TAG facilitated the transportation of the car to different locations for early bird drawings, branded the vehicle, and sold it to the club at a discounted price.

The funds raised through the raffle will support the club’s community initiatives, which include environmental conservation, beach erosion prevention, and assistance to local communities. “The club is committed to addressing various projects that benefit the territory, prioritising based on community needs,” Mohammed stated.

The Rotary Club of Central Tortola has hosted car raffles annually since 2020, making 2024 its fourth consecutive year. Platinum sponsors for the event included Nagico Insurance, FLOW Cable & Wireless, and Delta Petroleum.
