Aggressive campaign coming to ramp up vaccination

Health & Social Development Minister Carvin Malone

Health Minister Carvin Malone has announced that the government will be embarking on an aggressive marketing campaign to encourage more people to take the remaining COVID-19 vaccines available in the BVI.

In a statement on March 25, Minister Malone also revealed that a Community Outreach Committee has been formed to educate and inform all residents of the importance and benefits of being vaccinated.

This planned campaign comes amid the announcement that the first batch of vaccines the BVI received in early February will expire before the end of the second quarter of 2021.

And with another 12,000 AstraZeneca doses set to arrive in the territory, Minister Malone said the BVI’s vaccine supply could pause as global demand for the vaccine increases.

As such he said persons should take the shots while they are available.

“Because of this worldwide phenomenon — [both] the European Union government, the Indian government have [a great] demand on this (vaccine) so they have announced that they will disrupt the supply to the United Kingdom. This may well have consequences for us,” Malone explained.

So far, 7,000 persons have taken the AstraZeneca jabs in the BVI.

The government said it is aiming to vaccinate at least 70 per cent of the population to ensure there is herd immunity against the new virus.

Vaccination has been linked to the full and safe reopening of the battered BVI economy.

Just this week, Premier Fahie announced that cruise passengers who are getting ready to travel the world later this year, are already indicating they would prefer to interact with populations that have taken the COVID-19 jabs.

In time people will find that they cannot travel or even mix in crowds unless they are vaccinated. It’s free. Not one of the 7000 so far vaccinated has reported bad side effects.

The stupid self appointed juju men should be ignored and everyone get the vaccine while it is in date and free.

Your approach alone will turn off more people. You are a condescending, know it all prick. How can one man speak for 7000 people??

I had a brother sick in bed for 14 days because he took the Astrazenneca. The Man thought he would die.

Again this is a private and personal decision for each individual to make. Respect people’s beliefs and right to choose as I am sure they respect yours. Just because someone has a different view that does not mean he is dumb or ignorant.

Scaremongering won’t help either. Continue to make a mockery of God given natural herbs that have been used and proven effective for thousands of years before modern science became a business. Again respect other people’s beliefs don’t look down on them.

Really ironic that when a person takes astrazenneca vaccine and dies they blame it on underlying conditions. However if they get covid they don’t blame it on underlying conditions but Covid.

Open up the country and let us move on by doing the basics right.

Please don’t confuse the different types of vaccine that are available. The Oxfoed/AstraZeneca vaccine is not based on mRNA technology, but works the same way as the normal flu jab.

Too late shall be the cry. You guys dropped the ball on this like everything else. Even your own boss, the Premier, [allegedly] said early on that he was not taking it. Don’t you think that this statement would work counter to what you are now trying to accomplish? Nothing that is put in this government’s hands it has the capacity to handle. Just an … bunch that represents the worst in us.

I do not trust the vaccine that is available to us. Why can’t we get the others? America does not even use the vaccine that we use. Further more a bunch of European counties discontinued its use.

      Facts please.

      The European countries already continued.

The American vaccines need to be stored at -70 celcius.

We can’t even keep our normal ice cream frozen here.

And in America AstraZeneca was recently approved so they are starting quickly.

      Stop this nonsense please.

So smart you call it a vaccine.

There are significant issues such as pathogenic priming and paradoxical immune enhancement phenomenon which means ‘vaccinated’ people may still develop the disease, get sicker and die.

None of the current supposed ‘vaccines’ stop you catching or spreading, or dying from the virus.

Then there is viral immune escape… severe mutations due to the supposed ‘vaccines’, at this point we are in real trouble…

The ‘vaccines’ are leaky, which can only breed highly infectious variants.

Every single time you have an immune response that is suboptimal in the presence of an infection, in the presence of a virus, that infected person risks immune escape. So that means the virus can escape the immune response.

Most of the variants we have seen so far are as a result of the virus adapting to the immune system. What we will see between now and the end of the year is a number of variants which are driven by immunological selection, largely by the vaccines.

They knew since October 2020 that he vaccines were coming and we are now heading into April 2021 talking about ramping up. We have about 18,000 people to vaccinate in order to meet the percentage they wanted and still, look at us. Yes, people should be going forward for the vax but this Government has messed up every single thing lately.

They have absolutely no idea how many people are here who qualify, ie not kids, not off island etc so 70% is how many again. They are going to have vaccine centres open sitting empty with no takers until we can get our second shots.

Even if the BVI continues to vaccinate at the current rate, only 17,750 vaccinations will have been administered by 31-May-21. This is the date the first 20,000 doses expire. By my reckoning that means the BVI will be throwing away 2,250 doses of the vaccine, now that would be criminal!!!

    This is a simple solution.
Advise the world that we are opening our borders on 30th April, no Quarantine, no testing. Only vaccinated people are allowed to cross the boarders, arriving with a negative test.
This will allow business to recover in historically a slow period, so naturally it will be light traffic and the introduction of COVID into the community will be slow.
It will allow those sitting on the fence to get their jab and give ample time for those that do not want the jab to find jobs that do not put them at risk, get their affairs in order.
How long must the island suffer from excuses like “i don’t like injections”, or the classic that cracks me up “i need to do more research”.
Sorry Government but we have been quietly abiding your wish allowing lockdown, border close and s**t business for a year, the vaccination is a way out but we cannot wait, if people don’t want to help themselves that help the BVI recover then enough is enough and they must take the risk… COVID will never go away, LEARN TO LIVE WITH IT, because it has learnt to live here.

Well, we can clearly see exactly the numbers that don’t believe in progress, science and vaccines. It’s a shame but perhaps not a huge surprise. They will be left behind. I hope we are investing in ventilators for the overweight & elderly.

People like you dont like us and would find any foolish excuse to spew your nastiness under the guise of caring. Go f**k yourself!

But in reality not everyone will be able to take the vaccine for various health reasons and will need to get an exemption from their GP. People have recovered from COVID without the vaccine. Your argument makes no sense.

The best way to help the tourist industry is to allow entry of vaccinated persons with a negative test and not require them to quarantine for four days after arriving–get the money moving into the industry as soon as the vaccinated folks arrive!
