Airport employee fined for accepting undeclared goods

Her Majesty’s Customs recently tagged this aircraft with a Notice of Detention following an ‘undeclared goods’ incident.

An employee working in the tower at the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island is facing disciplinary actions after accepting undeclared goods brought in by an aircraft.

The employee was fined $2,500 for Fraudulent Evasion and violation of the territory’s Customs laws by knowingly ‘concerning’ with ‘uncustomed’ goods.

As for the aircraft in question, it reportedly flew in from St Lucia last Wednesday.

Her Majesty’s Customs Department detained the aircraft Friday when the pilot — also a St Lucian — paid a $2,500 fine for Failure To Declare Goods Brought Inwards and delivering them to an airport employee.

This is a violation of the Customs Management and Duties Act (No. 6) of 2010.
