Akeem Hopkinson found guilty of murder
Akeem Hopkinson has been found guilty of the April 2021 murder of Catherine Pickering.
A 10-member jury convicted him today, Tuesday, February 25, after approximately three hours of deliberations.
He was found guilty on all four charges: murder, robbery, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger lives, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
He is scheduled to return to court on March 7, 2025, for mitigation, at which point the defence will present factors that may lessen the severity of a sentence.
He is expected to be sentenced later this month. The case was heard at the High Court before Judge Rajiv Persad, with Hopkinson represented by Phoenix Law.

It’s been a long time coming. No one deserves to be shot and killed. That poor woman certainly did not deserve to be unalived by these thieves in the manner they did. She nor her daughter were hurting anyone. They were targeted in a crime of opportunity after a hards days work.
These menace to society would rather rob and kill than finding a job and make an honest living.
I don’t know what mitigation factor(s) the defense would come up with, but as far as I am concern there are none.
Nothing they can say in his defense that can mitigate the fact that Catherine Pickering is no longer here because they attempted to rob her of money but ended up robbing her of her life. Nothing.
The judge needs to throw the book at him. It’s a shame we no longer have the death penalty in this country, because he deserves it.
As such, the next best thing is to lock him up for the rest of his natural life. I hope the family will weigh in on this at his sentencing. He does not deserve to ever live among decent people again.
Now, many of us have criticized the DPP office for failing to win convictions including myself. I want to give them credit for bringing about this conviction.
I hope the judge does the right thing here after all is said and done and lock this man up forever so that Catherine Pickering could finally rest in peace with her killer behind bars forever.

That F…gt that worked at big brother is who needs to be found guilty of everything, not just “robbery”. He started the ball rolling on everything. Without his role, none of this would have happened. No matter who’s found guilty of what, I cast full blame on that dude for the murder of that lady.
