Alternate road for Baughers Bay still in design phase
Communications and Works Minister Kye Rymer confirmed that the long-promised alternate road in Baughers Bay is still in the design phase, with the final plans expected at a later date.
Rymer informed the House of Assembly that the project would be executed using a phased approach.
“Given the scope of works and the significant budgetary commitment that it would require, at this time, the ministry is preparing to engage an external engineer to work on and complete the designs for this project,” Rymer stated.
The Minister added that the completion of the designs would inform cost estimates and potential encroachment issues. He assured the public that this would guide engagement with the community towards finalising the construction of the road.
According to Rymer, once critical areas are finalised, the source of funding will be determined.
The update came in response to a question from Opposition Leader and Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn, who raised concerns about delays in delivering the alternate route. “Have you decided which route you will take for the alternate roads? Because it appears that we are staying in the planning system,” Walwyn said.
Rymer referred to a previous site visit he had with Walwyn and pointed out encroachment issues concerning an existing road that the government is exploring. “That is the area that we are looking at as we go through the preliminary phase in terms of the designs for that,” Rymer explained.
He also argued that it would be premature to assign funding from a recently acquired Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) loan to accelerate the project. “We understand what happens with the budget cycle. You can assign [funding], and if the project is not ready, then it would be lost throughout the budget cycle,” Rymer explained.
Rymer stated that once the design is submitted and approved, the project will proceed. “As we go through the preliminary stage, we will then address the funding once we get to the stage of costing,” Rymer said.

This alternate road is very much needed. Thanks Hon. Walwyn and Hon. Rymer. Please make this happen. It is a nightmare on school days to get in and out of Baughers Bay.
It’s going on three weeks to finish off the Paraquita Bay road when they said they needed two.
After that, can you fix that GIANT pothole at the top of Hope Hill going west? It causes traffic to be backed up on a steep, wet hill. That means you need to fix that water running down the hill too.
Thank you very much.
There has to be a case for C.O.S-C to be consultant here.
That exit road was promised to us since Omar Hodge days. We have now seen a third representatives since then. Poor we Baughers Bay residents gets stuck either on the outside or on the inside when accidents happen, blocking the only entrance/exit.
And guess what……
He was rewarded by being re-elected election cycle after election cycle.
And then replaced by a lady who kept the status quo by doing nothing and being re-elected for what 4 terms??
It looks like BVI voters like politicians who do nothing.
This public m**o just taking up space in the HOA. He just hiding under the red woman frock tail. Another Trump…useless
