Anegada Airport closed for maintenance

The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) has announced the temporary closure of Auguste George Airport in Anegada to facilitate maintenance work.

Managing Director Kurt Menal stated that the closure is necessary to repair the airport’s fire appliance, which is critical for maintaining safety standards. He assured that provisions have been made with domestic fire services in the event of an emergency evacuation.

The closure took effect at 7 am today, Tuesday, February 4, until 1 pm on Wednesday, February 5.

This is not the first time the airport has experienced a major disruption. In December 2023, a fire tender was removed from Anegada’s airport and relocated to Virgin Gorda due to mechanical issues with their equipment. This led to an abrupt closure, causing significant inconvenience to Anegada residents.

At the time, Minister of Communications and Works Kye Rymer issued an apology and assured that the fire tender had been returned, allowing the airport to reopen.
