Anegada resident donates truck to local clinic
As efforts continue to improve medical resources in Anegada, the Nurse Romalia Smith Clinic on the sister island has been gifted with a brand-new pickup truck to assist with day-to-day activities and medical emergencies.
The truck was donated by a Belgian businessman Christian Van Thillo who owns a home on Anegada. The new vehicle will make it easier for the clinic to transport medical supplies, staff, and—even in emergencies—patients around the island, helping to overcome the transportation challenges caused by Anegada’s remote location.
Acting CEO of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), Dr. June Samuel, expressed gratitude to the donor, noting how impactful the contribution will be for both staff and patients.
“The team here works incredibly hard, and this vehicle will go a long way in supporting their vital work. I met Christian last year and saw first-hand his love for Anegada. The BVI Health Services Authority looks forward to a lasting friendship with him.”
Nurse Cherry-Ann George-Smith, Area Manager for the clinic, echoed the sentiment. “This facility is the lifeline of the Anegada community, and this generous gift strengthens our ability to serve. My heart is full. Christian and his wife are true friends of the clinic—each visit they come by just to say hello, to check in.”
Mr. Van Thillo, who has developed a warm relationship with the clinic and its staff over the years, spoke fondly about his ties to the island.
“Anegada is truly Nature’s Little Secret, and it’s close to my heart. We’ve traveled the world, but what you have here is absolutely unique. If I can help preserve it, that’s a blessing. It’s become a bit of a tradition—I always seem to get injured during my visits, and I end up at the clinic with Nurse Cherryann taking care of me!”
Minister for Health and Social Development, Vincent Wheatley, before receiving the keys to the new vehicle, highlighted the practical importance of the donation.
“This is a very needed vehicle. Sometimes, one vehicle just isn’t enough—we use them to collect supplies, even in emergency situations. Christian, you have done so much for Anegada—some known, some unspoken. Thank you.”
Following the handover, the vehicle will be integrated into clinic operations under BVIHSA’s fleet management protocols, with a dedicated maintenance schedule in place to ensure its long-term utility.
The new truck to boost medical operations in Anegada comes amid confirmation that Anegadians will not be getting the long-awaited water ambulance designed to assist with medical emergencies.
The Health Minister has stated that clinics on the island will be upgraded instead, as a medical boat would be too expensive.

Great donation.
this guy built a house at the west end of the island and put 2 large roxk walls out to the sea instead of along his property to protect it.
He says and i quote“Anegada is truly Nature’s Little Secret, and it’s close to my heart. We’ve traveled the world, but what you have here is absolutely unique. If I can help preserve it, that’s a blessing.”
His wall has eroded a beach that has been there since any of the great grand parents caan remember it is now gone, a 100ft wide and more than a 1/2 mile long, gone because he cares so much about….
Guess we now know who allowed him to do such a thing? Don’t worry, the Bible speaks about the foolish man who built his house upon the sand….well in this case, its a wall fence upon the sand. He’ll soon find out what a brilliant idea that was.
Anyways, the community thank him for this and other contributions made pver the years
a favour for a favour
And this is how Christopher Columbus fooled off the natives, by giving them shinny objects to distract them. the colonizers told them to pray with their eyes closed and stole their lands while they prayed. well look at the native in the suit and shades. SMH!!!

That’s the same Government who embraced others calling black carribean people all kind ah ting!!
Thank You Sir!!
Much appreciation for your ” give back” and gesture of thankfulness and goodwill
to the BVI Community.
Fk’in embarrassing. Vincent do your friggin job and tell that d**il he don’t own the beach. The fact that he put rock walls in the ocean shows that he wants to be separated from locals. Not to mention it’s an eye soar. It’s simply ugly. People must not know the history of Belgium. Look how them do the Congo. Mr. District 9 out here accepting handouts like a 3rd world politician. I don’t like he dutty muddask**t at all.
Seems like ocular demand suggests the Minister should be up Balsum ghut shaking the murderous and thieving hands of the thugs of the caged Caricom varmints and in the local schools patting the adolescent fatherless Caricom picanninies for packing their bookbags with drugs and ammunition and so on and on…most especially the need for another mil
Lion of dollars human cage and the cost of these foreign varmint upkeep averaging more than the salaries of our average Gov employee.
Thats a very small donation from a billionaire… but as they say. Where there’s no vision…
