Baughers Bay mishap prompts call for new exit route

This residents manually hoists wiring from one of four utility poles dragged down by garbage truck.

Sixth District Representative Myron Walwyn has called for an alternative exit route in Baughers Bay after an accident disrupted the community yesterday, October 7.

A garbage truck became entangled in low-hanging wires, causing four utility poles to collapse. This, in turn, led to a major power outage and traffic congestion in the community.

Walwyn expressed his concerns on Facebook, highlighting the necessity for an additional route out of the area.

“The situation this afternoon underscores the importance of getting an alternate route to get out of the Baughers Bay community. The main road is completely impassable due to an accident that took down several lampposts,” Walwyn stated.

This is not the first time the issue has been raised. Walwyn mentioned that residents had been calling for an alternative road for many years. During his campaign, he also stressed the need for this infrastructure improvement. Following the accident, he confirmed that Minister for Communications and Works Kye Rymer has agreed to meet with him to assess possible routes.

Walwyn expressed relief that no one was injured in the incident and noted the fortunate timing, as no emergencies occurred that would have required immediate access to or from the community.

“I am very thankful that no one got hurt or we didn’t have any emergencies as yet that would have required the ambulance or any other emergency vehicle to come in or out of the community. Let’s get this fixed,” he urged.

Real question should be; why are the telecoms companys running their wires so low. Ever since irma, the place has been entangled by excessive wires. All sorts of trucks are pulling them down.

You think a meeting mean that you have the alternate road? The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let Kye and his team build the road first then you could talk. Showing up to a site visit isn’t enough.
