BVI delegation attends UK good governance forum

A delegation from the BVI recently attended the Sixth UK Overseas Territories Forum on Good Governance and Public Finance, which took place from September 10 to 12 in Westminster, London.

The forum brought together representatives from several Overseas Territories, including Anguilla, Bermuda, and the Cayman Islands, to exchange best practices and discuss important topics related to the oversight of public finances.

The BVI delegation included Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton, Eighth District Representative Marlon Penn, House of Assembly (HOA) Clerk Bethsaida Smith-Hanley, and Deputy Director of Internal Audit Simba Todman. The conference was a key opportunity for officials to share experiences and strategies to improve governance and financial oversight within the territories.

During the forum, representatives discussed essential governance reforms and public finance management strategies, including implementing recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry (COI). The COI reforms, an ongoing focus in the BVI, were highlighted as crucial to sustainable governance.

Sarah Dickson, CEO of the UK Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), said the forum provides a unique platform for fostering collaboration and strengthening networks between the UK and its Overseas Territories. She emphasised that the forum’s interactive nature allowed for a valuable exchange of ideas, which would aid in reinforcing governance practices across the territories.

The forum is part of the government’s ongoing effort to engage with UK authorities and improve governance systems. The event continues the BVI’s previous efforts to enhance parliamentary practices and public finance oversight.

the headline this meeting appears more like an opportunity for OT politicians to share info about using government money for their own personal wealth advancement.

  3. Goon Squad says:

This could’ve been done via ZOOM. The BVI gets zero from this s**t and they get a free trip to London to sip tea and eat crumpets. We f**k again!

    • A Capitalist Who Loves the BVI says:

Exactly right, but a ZOOM meeting (which would be adquate for 90% of the trips that include “delegations”) would have been fine for this trip as well. But a ZOOM meeting doesn’t provide a photo op, not to mention the free first class travel, lavish meals, and people fawning all over you as “important government officials.”

    • Lool says:

What is good governance; considering the state of affairs there and here. Who need this more the guest or the host?

  4. Good governance and BVI says:

In one sentence seems like a joke..
